A MOTHER'S STORY
Mother Theresa once said, "We are all pencils in the hand of a writing God who is sending a love letter to the world."
In the wake of Run to the Sun, our fourth annual overnight relay through the Texas hill country, we received a letter from someone named Jack, whom I've never met.

STUDENT CHARITY AT CASIS
Leadership Casis students give back to support community and friend
"Children are our most valuable resource." - Herbert Hoover
This year, BBDF has been adopted by a very special group of supporters at Casis Elementary. The fifth grade students of Leadership Casis have donated their time and talent to support the foundation, their friend Christiane, and all other children affected by Batten disease. Over the course of the year, their events have included hosting a sports camp that raised $850, creating signs for Run to the Sun to encourage runners, and participating in a contest to name BBDF's new scientific characters that will be featured in our upcoming blog.
The foundation is so excited to see students getting involved in philanthropy at a young age. As these children continue to grow into the leaders of tomorrow, we know they will continue to impact their communities in positive ways. BBDF is honored to be your cause. Thanks Leadership Casis!

FEATURED FUNDRAISER
In April, a group of BBDF supporters headed down to Flour Bluff, Texas to participate in a fishing tournament to raise funds for Batten disease research.
"40 very good men gave generously of their time, heart and money and participated in the Sixth
Annual Battlin' Batten in Baffin Tournament out of Bluff's Landing Marina; and I am equal parts proud and honored to say the tournament once again proved to be a tremendous success."
-Neal Meinzer, Tournament Coordinator
Together the participants raised over $33,000 for Batten disease research. Over the last six years, the BBB Fishing Tournament has given over $120,000 to BBDF. Thank you to all the fishermen for their continued support and generosity.

RUN TO THE SUN TEAM SPOTLIGHT
Last month, 25 teams participated in the exhilarating, overnight trek from Enchanted Rock to Austin, Texas. We were truly inspired by the teamwork, bonding and support that transpired between teams and runners along the route. We'll be spotlighting one team each newsletter. Runners, here's to you!
We Are Sparta
The motto of BancVue is "Domination Through Innovation," and dominate is exactly what these coworkers did. Signing up only two weeks before race day, We Are Sparta managed to assemble a team of 9 and an exchange station! With 20 employees volunteering, their late-night Nifty Fifties exchange took the prize for favorite exchange station of the night! BancVue employees embraced Run to the Sun as an opportunity for both runners and non-runners to connect, have fun and give back in a big way.
"BancVue is an amazing place to work. Our employees are encouraged to bring community support opportunities to their peers who choose to rally around their cause. It is common at BancVue for most of the company to volunteer to help a colleague. That is the way it worked with Run to the Sun. Even though our 'rest station' time slot was from 3 to 5:30 a.m., 20 BancVue team members got creative beyond my wildest dreams. 9 other co-workers signed up for the Relay. It was awesome."
-Marty Sunde, President, BancVue
