Megan's Newsletter

May 2014

Motherless, fatherless, alone, and scared, from a very young age the boy was shuffled from home to home. Lacking love, each of the houses was cold and left him feeling empty and even more alone. In his teenage years he ended up on the streets, fending for himself in an attempt to find temporary shelter and his next meal. The boy had nowhere to turn, no one to trust, and felt completely hopeless.

As I sat amongst the crowd at the

CAFO (Christian Alliance for Orphans) conference, this man's story resonated in my heart because it is so very similar to the stories of our precious children on The Hill and in The Valley. Like this man, our children have also found hope and a future through Jesus Christ, but unfortunately, this is not the case for millions of orphans around the world. As I listened to this speaker, as well as many similar speakers who share the burning passion for orphans, I was reminded of why I want to be a part of this                                                                             battle against the orphan crisis.

Kenya Bound!

This month I am so excited to be able to share the news with you that I will be heading to Kenya in the beginning of June! I have been back in the States for almost a year, and there has not been a single day when I have not missed the kids like crazy. I cannot tell you how much I am looking forward to hugging the kids, joining in with their contagious laughter, worshiping with them, and just being with them. During my time in Kenya, I will be working along side Oasis missionary (and good friend) Ann Smith to implement a holistic development program, set up an after school homework program, and continue work with the sponsorship program. I am so excited to see how God is going to work through these programs!

The Past Few Weeks...

It has been a very busy past few weeks. In late April I accepted a three week long substitute teaching position for 8th grade math, science, and woodworking (which was quite daunting because I have never even used a drill before). At first I was a little nervous because the subject areas were not my best, but to my surprise, I ended up having fun, laughing every day, and enjoying getting to know the students. I even missed them when I left! Last Monday I began another three week long Kindergarten substitute-teaching job, which will keep me busy until the end of the school year. The little ones have endless energy and have been a lot of fun. I am so very thankful that God has provided jobs during this time- it has been an answer to prayer!

Prayer Requests

As I prepare to leave, I have a few prayer requests I would like to share with you.

  • In order to meet my budget, I am still in need of about $3,000. Please join me in praying that God would provide these funds.
  • Along with working full-time, there are many other things that need to get done in my remaining days in the States. Please join me in praying that I would be able to find the time to get everything done.
  • Please pray that God would be preparing hearts (the hearts of the children, the people I will interact with, and my own heart) for the work He wants to do.
  • Please pray for traveling safety as I travel to Kenya.

Also New...

Along with selling t-shirts, Megan is now also selling beautiful hand-made necklaces and bracelets. Each piece is hand-made, hand-painted, and has a scripture on the back. The necklaces and bracelets are for sale at $24 each. All proceeds will go to support Megan as she serves in Kenya. Please contact Megan at megan@oasisfororphans.org  if you are interested!
