Why I Want to Be a Child Sponsor
By Stephanie, Child Sponsor in Waiting

I first learned about Oasis for Orphans at my Church, The Chapel.  During a service the Campus Pastor mentioned Oasis for Orphans and invited everyone to a reception to learn more about it.  I knew immediately that this was a program that I wanted to be involved with and could see how the financial and prayer support was saving lives of orphaned children.  What excites me about being involved with Oasis is not only supporting from the sidelines, but having the opportunity to personally interact with a child (e.g., being able to learn about his/her culture and understand life experiences from a different point of view).  In addition, I am also looking forward to developing a lifelong relationship with my sponsor child, sharing my faith in and love of Christ, and providing my child with encouragement to follow his/her dreams. Oasis gives me the opportunity to serve God through serving others.

Dear Oasis Friends,

It has been a busy few months at Oasis and we are so thankful to those of you who support us regularly in prayer. Please know that your prayers are the power behind what we do at Oasis and you are making mighty changes for God's Kingdom everyday.

In this issue, we have several important announcements to share with you. We are going through many transitions and are excited about what God is doing in and through us as we continue to press forward.

Our most exciting news is that two weeks ago Oasis signed a partnership agreement with The Valley, which means that we can begin the sponsorship process at that site. Be sure to read the article "Looking for Fans" to get the details.

God bless you,

New Transitions

About a year and half ago, God brought Tom Andersen to Oasis for Orphans.  From the start it was clear to all of us that Tom was an excellent leader, accomplished businessman, and friend of orphans and widows. Tom had recently retired and was looking for an 'epic' place to serve and impact the kingdom. After several conversations to discuss his skills and our organizational needs, we asked Tom to lead Oasis for Orphans as the Managing Director.

Since that time, Tom has put his fingerprints all over this ministry, and God has used him to create alignment across our staff, volunteers and sponsors; to stabilize our day-to-day operations; and to create scale and leverage across the ministry so we can accelerate our mission.

Over the last few months, Tom has been prayerfully considering a few life changes for his family and his work. In particular, he has felt God calling him to serve in a new ministry over the next season of his life. After weighing the options carefully, Tom has made the decision to leave his role with Oasis and move to Madison in order to be close to his family. While we are sad to lose Tom as a member of our leadership team, we are excited that he will be leaving as a strong ambassador for this ministry. On behalf of the entire board, staff and volunteers we want to express our heartfelt appreciation to Tom and Ruthmari for their service to Oasis.

Over the coming weeks, we will be working on a transition plan for Tom's responsibilities. Consequently, the board will begin a search for a new Managing Director immediately. If you are interested or know of any interested candidates, please reach out to one of the board members or contact the Oasis office (contact below) for more information. Lastly, please pray that God's hand of blessing will continue to be upon this ministry and all those involved. As a board, we are very excited about the ministry opportunities ahead of us and the team of staff, volunteers and sponsors who make up our Oasis family. We are looking forward to seeing how God will provide for our needs.

Sincerely,

Oasis for Orphans Board

Looking for Fans

Who is your biggest fan? We all have people in our lives who believe in us, who think we can do almost anything. Maybe your parents have always been your greatest devotees, cheering you on since your days in little league? Maybe it's your spouse who has supported you, encouraging you to go after your dreams? Perhaps your kids are the ones who look at you like a hero, building you up with respect and admiration? Most of us have at least one, if not many fans in our lives to encourage us, love us for who we uniquely are, and remind us of our worth.

Sadly, there are millions of orphaned children in Kenya with no fans at all...not even one. They never hear the words, "I believe in you." No one cheers their names. No one sacrifices comfort or time to ensure they have opportunity. No one tells them how precious they are. How can these children hold onto hope when there is no one to tell them what hope is?

In contrast, our Oasis kids have fans we like to call "sponsors." Our sponsors are our Kenyan kids' biggest fans. It is our sponsors who pray, cheer, encourage and enthusiastically support the children who God has entrusted to the Oasis family. Children's lives are changed and eternally impacted by the special relationship that forms between a child and his or her sponsor. Our sponsors make it possible for us as an organization to implement the holistic development plan that is protecting, educating, developing and preparing these children for their future.

As Oasis turns the page from being a single site to opening a second site, we are looking for fans to join us on our exciting journey. We need new sponsors who will enthusiastically commit their hearts, minds and resources to help us love and cheer on 30 more children in southwest Kenya.

Would you consider being one of our newest fans?

Please Pray

1. Over the next few months the Ruzga and Derse families and the Education, Sponsor and Dental teams are traveling to Kenya to serve at our Oasis sites. Please pray for safety, effectiveness, and spiritual growth for all involved!

2. Please pray for the leadership search for a Managing Director for Oasis and that, even at this time, God is preparing the heart of the man or woman whom He has chosen for this next leg of the journey.

3. Please pray that God will give Ann Smith and the leaders of The Valley wisdom and discernment as they go through the selection process for the children who will enter our sponsorship program.

4. Please pray that God would raise up godly men and women who are willing to invest their hearts, energy and resources into the lives of our Valley children through the gift of sponsorship.

Thanks to You
