Army Introduces
ACU-Alternate (ACU A) Uniform
|
A new Army Combat Uniform with special consideration to the female form is now at Fort Sill, and it is being issued to new Soldiers going through Basic Combat Training.
The new uniform, several years in the making, was initially considered as being the first female-only uniform, but instead is now approved for both sexes and is being called ACU-A for Army Combat Uniform-Alternate.
"We started issuing them slowly in April, and we've since been issuing them more frequently as our fitters get more comfortable placing Soldiers in them," said Trevor Whitworth, Central Initial Issue Point project manager, where new Soldiers are first issued their uniforms here.

USMC Testing Unisex Dress Blues
|
General Amos has quietly directed a uniform test at Marine Barracks, 8th & I, Washington DC. that could have Marine Corps wide impact. A select few women are wearing a modified version of the Male Barracks Cap and Male Officer and Enlisted Dress Blue Jacket or blouse. According to the Marine Corps times the Barracks CO will solicit feedback on the unisex dress blue uniform from the women who conducted the test. 8th & I was chosen for the test because Marines have so many occasions to wear dress blues.
The female dress blues blouse has a blazer-style lapel collar with white dress shirt visible underneath. For now male dress blue jackets are being tailored to fit, but if the uniform is adopted a entirely new female jacket may have to be developed.

Ortiz: To Live a Man's Life
by Laura Homan Lacey by Phillips Publications

Laura Lacey does a fantastic job of detailing the exploits of the hero that most Americans have never heard of. Pierre Julian Ortiz did more in his life than dozens of men combined. He was a French Foreign Legionnaire, a U.S. Marine Officer, an OSS Agent, and a Hollywood Actor. While those billets would look impressive on any resume, Ms. Lacey goes into great detail, based on several years of research including interviews with his wife and son, about his truly amazing accomplishments in each those billets.
As you start reading you'll quickly realize that James Bond has nothing on Ortiz. Bond is unbelievable fiction, whereas Ortiz is unbelievable fact.
Every Marine, Soldier, Sailor and Airmen should read this book. Ortiz is proof positive that one man, and one small team of men can make a huge difference.
An American citizen, Ortiz was fluent in multiple languages and had already served an enlistment with the Foreign Legion prior to the invasion of France. His return to France, via merchant ship, at the onset of WWII was interrupted by a German torpedo. Undeterred, he rejoined the Legion in order to fight the Germans. Wounded in action, he was captured by the Germans and managed to escape making his way back to the United States. He did all this prior to the Attack on Pearl Harbor. His service in the Marine Corps and OSS behind enemy lines in France with the French Resistance is even more incredible! He saved a French town and was one of the few U.S. Marines captured by the Germans during the war. Yes, he was twice a P.O.W. during WWII.
Although a retired Marine Corps Colonel with two Navy Crosses, Lacey points out that lessons of the Legion stayed with him his entire life. Ortiz joined the Legion "to live a man's life" and Lacey proves that he did much more than that. His incredible life and adventures, as covered in great detail by the author, was defined by Seven Articles of the Legionnaire Code of Honor.
