Fund-Raiser Benefits Neonatal Transporter for The Unterberg Children's Hospital

Funds Supplement $40,000 Grant Awarded from the Will Rogers Institute

More than 400 walkers on 41 teams recently joined together on the Long Branch promenade to participate in the Eighth Annual Big Steps for Little Feet Walk to benefit the Hirair and Anna Hovnanian Foundation Regional Newborn Center at The Unterberg Children's Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center.

Underwritten by Pediatrix Medical Group, the record-setting event raised more than $95,000 to support the purchase of a neonatal transporter and related pulmonary equipment designed to transport critically ill infants when they require the highest level of care that can only be provided at a level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

Additional funding for the neonatal transporter has been provided by the Will Rogers Institute, a program of the Will Rogers Motion Picture Pioneers Foundation, which equips hospitals providing critical care to premature infants with ventilator equipment and critical care pulmonary services. As a 2014 neonatal ventilator and pulmonary grant program recipient, the Hirair and Anna Hovnanian Foundation Regional Newborn Center at The Unterberg Children's Hospital received a grant for $40,000 to facilitate the purchase of the neonatal transporter.

The Valerie Fund Children's Center Makes Noise to Raise Awareness for Pediatric Cancer

According to the American Cancer Society, approximately 1 in 285 children will be diagnosed with cancer before the age of 20.

To raise awareness for the need for pediatric cancer research, the Valerie Fund Children's Center for Cancer and Blood Disorders, part of The Unterberg Children's Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center, recently hosted a tree-lighting ceremony and reception honoring Make Some Noise: Cure Kids Cancer Foundation as part of the Go Gold for Pediatric Cancer Campaign. A joint effort of Make Some Noise: Cure Kids Cancer Foundation and Monmouth Medical Center, the campaign is designed to raise awareness of childhood cancer and the need for critical research funding during the month of September, recognized nationally as Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

"We are thrilled that our community has once again joined together to 'make some noise' and rally around such an important cause. Pediatric cancer is a terrifying disease with a devastating impact on both children and families. The need for more pediatric cancer research and funding is critical in the fight against this disease," said event organizer Susan Dulczak, clinical director, The Valerie Fund Children's Center at Monmouth Medical Center.
