The Unterberg Children's Hospital offers the community the renowned medical expertise in the care of children that only a leading academic medical center can provide, with a staff of more than 140 pediatricians and pediatric specialists in 26 fields of medicine.

Recently nearly 100 pediatricians and pediatric nurses from throughout the region gathered for the third semiannual Seasonal Symposium, an event spotlighting the pediatric subspecialists from The Unterberg Children's Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center.

Held February 26 at Eagle Oaks Country Club in Farmingdale, the event featured educational lecture sessions led by pediatric gastroenterologist Tina Rakitt, M.D., who addressed gluten-related digestive disorders, Mike Barrows, M.D., chief of pediatric endocrinology who spoke about type 2 diabetes, and Heather Grossman, M.D., chief of pediatric oncology and hematology, who gave an overview of the pediatrician's role in palliative care. Additionally, Jim Romer, clinical director of the Psychiatric Emergency Screening Service at Monmouth Medical Center, spoke to managing the child and adolescent mental health crisis.
