Monmouth Medical Center Pediatrician Inspires His Overweight Patients
Monmouth Medical Center pediatric endocrinologist Mike Barrows, D.O., has dedicated his professional life to helping obese kids and their families adopt healthier lifestyles.
In his personal life, the Shrewsbury resident, who has competed in lifeguard tournaments for more than 20 years and holds five United States National Ironman titles, serves as a role model to his patients, inspiring them to follow his fitness footsteps.
The chief of pediatric endocrinology for The Children's Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center won two first place awards in the most recent American and International Ironman events (35-39 age group); second place in the Surf-Swim competition and ninth in the Open Surfboat Race at the 2011 U.S. Lifesaving Association's (USLA) National Lifeguard Championships in Cape May (shown in photo above).

Kimball Medical Center Teams with The Children's Hospital on New Pediatric ER
Through a new collaboration with The Children's Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center, sister hospital Kimball Medical Center has unveiled a new program to meet the needs of infants and children in its award-winning Emergency Department.
Kimball's new Pediatric Emergency Services program, a service of The Children's Hospital, will allow children with urgent medical illnesses to receive the immediate specialty care they require from emergency medicine physicians, with in-house board-certified neonatologist and pediatrician consultation 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
As part of the collaboration with the Children's Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center, Kimball has provided comprehensive training and education programs for nurses and other medical professionals providing infant and pediatric care. Nursing staff have received pediatric advance life support certification, pediatric early warning signs protocols, completion of neonatal resuscitative certification and ongoing performance improvement initiatives.

MMC Provides Free Car Seat Inspections

According to the National Safe Kids Campaign, four out of five child safety seats are used incorrectly, with an average of three mistakes per seat. Just in time for the busy summer travel season, Monmouth Medical Center recently held free Child Car Seat Inspections to help local families stay safe.
Certified passenger safety technicians inspected close to 20 car seats and offered safety tips. The safety checks are offered through a cooperative effort of the New Jersey State Police, The Children's Hospital at Monmouth Medical Center and Monmouth Medical Center's SAFE KIDS Monmouth County Chapter.
