Dear Friends,
This Sunday in worship we'll continue our study of 1 Corinthians 13 as we examine the phrase, "Love is kind."
A few years ago, "random acts of kindness" were all the rage. It was all about doing something nice for perfect strangers.
But kindness means a lot more than just being nice. It's more than simply doing a neighbor a favor. Kindness is a quality of mind that has profound implications for the recipients of our kind acts. As the poor, abused traveler in Jesus' Parable of the Good Samaritan found out, kindness can even be life-changing.
When pollsters ask people if they would describe themselves as kind, a very large majority typically answer "yes." None of us like to think of ourselves as unkind! Yet, considering all the trouble and strife in the world, it seems unlikely that true kindness is so widespread as that. The truth is, we admire kindness, but not all of us are so very adept at living in a kindly way.
Here's a little video to get us thinking about kindness and the positive impact it has on people's lives. It's called The Kindness Boomerang, and it's long been a favorite with nearly 25 million views:
Join us this Sunday, as we do a deep dive into the rich meaning of this great word from the scriptures!

Anthony Maimone Is Planning His Ordination We rejoice with church member Anthony Maimone, who has completed his training at New Brunswick Theological Seminary and who - it can now be announced - is negotiating with a congregation for a call to become their pastor!
This Sunday, Anthony will be preaching his candidating sermon at the First Presbyterian Church of Tuckerton. He has already been approved by the Committee on Ministry of Monmouth Presbytery. If all goes well with the congregational vote this Sunday, he will be examined on the floor of the presbytery meeting on Tuesday evening, September 27 at Belmar. Then, he plans to be ordained at the Tuckerton church at a special worship service at 4:00 pm on Sunday, October 2. Anthony's service at Tuckerton will be part-time. He will continue his "day job" at International Schools Services in Princeton, and will commute to Tuckerton from his family's home in Manasquan. While we won't be seeing the Maimone family at Point Pleasant on very many more Sunday mornings, we're so happy to know of this new adventure! The Session has decided, in celebration of Anthony's upcoming ordination, that Point Pleasant Presbyterian will be making him the gift of a pulpit robe. They're asking church members to please make contributions toward this purchase. To join in the celebration in this way, please write out a check to the church with "Anthony's Pulpit Robe" on the memo line, or make an electronic gift with that instruction attached. (The cost of a good pulpit robe is over $500, so please be generous!)

6. Decided to reserve suitable dates with Camp Johnsonburg at the earliest opportunity for the Johnsonburg on the Road one-week traveling day camp, with the camp counselors to be housed in the CE Annex.
7. Decided to get name badges for church officers, to be used on Sunday mornings, especially when they may be ushering.
8. Discussed the church's financial situation, especially consistent shortfalls in cash and the ongoing deficit, and decided to begin regular reporting of financial highlights.

This Week At Point Beach Prep
"The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen, nor touched...but are felt in the heart." - Helen Keller
This week we began our new school year. We were excited to see old friends and welcomed new friends to our Point Beach Prep Family. Our young learners explored our classrooms and playground with curiosity and enthusiasm. Joy and laughter ensued when we played fun games, such as Duck Duck Goose and sang The Hokey Pokey. We read The Kissing Hand, about a raccoon starting school for the first time that missed his Mommy but remembered her love stays with him throughout the school day. The children transitioned smoothly into the various activities in our schedule including circle time, art, story time, snack, music and recess. We thank God for a blessed week of sunshine and for new friendships that are blossoming. See you next week when we begin our alphabet adventures!

This year new churches and schools are joining and the arrangements are in place at the Presbyterian Church of Toms River for the 2 PM walk. There is much to celebrate!

Thirty Seven Years Ago This Week
The Dr. John Townley Memorial Library was dedicated
The Rev. John Townley came to Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church on July 8, 1926. During his thirty-one years as Pastor of PPPC, Dr. Townley led the congregation through the economic depression and the Second World War, as well as through a time of great prosperity. Under his leadership, church membership grew from 198 members to 546 members. Dr. Townley retired from active ministry on November 1, 1957. Because of the strong growth of the church, plans for a new education building were being made at the time of his retirement.
