Weekly News For
Sunday, Sept 4, 2016
Dear Friends,

You're driving on the Parkway or the Turnpike, and you're in a hurry. You're in the left lane, hoping to make good time, but there ahead of you is a car going under the speed limit. Your blood boils.

Or, you're in the checkout line at the supermarket. The customer ahead of you is slowly digging through her purse looking for her debit card. "Come on," you mutter to yourself. "Let's get a move on. I've got to get home and cook dinner!"

Now, imagine you're with a young child you dearly love. She's telling you a "shaggy dog" story, as only kids can. There's someplace else you need to be, but her story is so endearing, you don't mind being late.

What's the difference between the first two scenarios and the the third? It's obvious. The difference is love.

Patience is essential to love. When we're with a person we love, time takes on a different character. We stop thinking about the future quite so much, and are more content to live in the now.

We're really a lot more happier when we're patient. Impatience is an invitation to anxiety, irritation, frustration.

It's a beautiful thing, patience. Couldn't you use a lot more of it in your life? I know I could.

Join us in worship this Sunday, as we talk about patience and how to cultivate it. Stick around for the Kickoff Barbecue afterwards, following the Sunday School orientation. It's for everybody!

bread-basket.jpg THE BREAD TEAM is a mission to welcome visitors to our church. If a visitor has signed the pew pad, a cloth bag (provided by Donna Whitman, thank you Donna) is filled with a loaf of fresh baked bread and brochures about our church and all of its activities. How welcoming it must be to arrive home after a busy day and find the bag hanging on your door, or share a welcoming word with one of our visitors who's dropping off the bread!

If you are interested in joining our small band of missionaries - currently there are five of us - we would love to have you. We each sign up for a month for bread and delivering it. It is not a lot of work and very rewarding. Please contact Karen Norby 732-295-8174 or e-mail hueforyou@gmail.com.

We'll enjoy a conversational process, within a café atmosphere, built on the assumption that ... People already have within them the wisdom and creativity to confront even the most difficult challenges; that the answers we need are available to us; and that we are Wiser Together than we are alone.

When:       Sunday, September 25, 2016
Where:      CE Annex
Schedule: Worship at 10:00 a.m. in the CE Annex, followed by a light lunch at our Café Next. Then the conversations begin facilitated by Rev. Dr. Terry Chapman. We expect to finish by around 2:00 p.m.

Inspirational Soccer Event - The Right to Play Party on September 18

There is an extremely unique and inspirational soccer event taking place next Sunday, September 18 from 3:00 to 7 pm at Langosta Lounge on the Asbury Park Boardwalk.

The Right to Play Party is a benefit supporting the nonprofit soccer club in India called Tibet Women's Soccer, which was started by church member Cassie Childers.  Tibet Women's Soccer works to empower Tibetan refugee women through sport and give them a platform to represent their country as soccer players all over the world.

SKY BLUE FC players and Coach Christy Holly will be in attendance, with an autograph and meet and greet table from 4-5pm at the event.

Also at the party will be
  • A large silent auction with autographed gear from David Villa & Raul Gonzales, including a chance to win a private dinner with Raul in NYC
  • Traditional Tibetan dancers
  • Tibetan hiphop
  • Performances by local Jersey Shore bands THE UNION & WAITING ON MONGO
  • Speeches by a Tibetan women's team player and the coach, a former member of the Tibetan men's national team
This is a great opportunity to tune into the true spirit of the beautiful game and show our youth how soccer is changing lives and empowering people all over the world.

Tickets are $20/advance or $25/door and for kids under ten years old it's $10
Price includes food and a complimentary drink all supplied by Langosta Lounge.

Participants will also have access to the Sky Blue players and the auction with admission.  Purchase tickets at:  tibetwomenssoccer.yapsody.com
         SUNDAY SCHOOL

Sunday School Registration Now Beginning

Hello PPPC families!!

Forgive me, I'm still in a tiny bit of shock that it is actually September already. I hope you all had a fantastic summer!  With "Back to School" comes "Back to Sunday School" as well. I wanted to give you all a little info on the registration process for this year.

We have had a few very helpful planning meetings and have decided to do away with "Rally Day" as we have traditionally known it. This year, we are doing more of a Sunday School Open House.

The Open House will take place on:
Sunday, September 11

This is a great opportunity for new families to see how Sunday School goes. We will all go up for the Children's Sermon, as usual. However, afterwards we will be doing a dry run of the process for how and when we go over to
Sunday School. This may ease any sort or nervousness new students (or new parents) may be feeling. At this time, we will walk over to the Sunday School. Please note that, on that particular day, ALL STUDENTS MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY AN ADULT! This is so important because once we get over to the Sunday School building, I will be busy speaking with parents and answering questions, so I will not be able to keep an eye on unattended children. This is an informational session only.

At this time, you may register your child for Sunday School, as well as to take a look around and check out our program and facility.

"But Tricia, (you say), we have been in the PPPCSS program for a few years now- we are vets! We want to register our children, but we don't want to have to leave church and miss the sermon in order to do this!"

Fear not! For parents who are already familiar with our program, there is a registration form attached. There are also hard copies waiting for you in the Narthex that will be available to you this week (9/4) and next weekend (9/11). I ask that you please fill them out and drop them off in the box.

I am so so excited for the year to come, and I hope your children are as well! We've got a lot of fun things planned. I can't wait to see everyone.

Also, please make sure you tell your friends about our informational session on the 11th. If they are looking to possibly join up, I'd love to talk to them.

See you all soon!

Peace and Blessings
Tricia Stoffers

Will You Help Our Sunday School?

Very shortly our Sunday School will begin another exciting year. Our Sunday school director, Tricia Stoffers, could use some help. Listed below or some simple jobs that are most important:

1. People willing to decorate the large bulletin board at the bottom of the steps in the annex. This is the first thing people see when entering the annex. It can be decorated with a seasonal theme or a Biblical theme. Currently we have the decorating of this bulletin board covered September through December. Will you take a month or a season beginning in 2017?

2.  We have a small A-frame sign that can be put out each week to let people know that Sunday school is taking place in the Annex. It is a sign with slide-in letters to advertise what is going on each week in the Sunday School. This job means changing the letters, putting the sign out before Sunday School and making sure it is taken in after Sunday School. Maybe this job has your name on it.

3.  There is always the need of volunteers to help teach and assist in the class rooms. Perhaps you might be willing to help with a unit or for a month. The children will be studying Esther, Samuel and the meaning of Advent/Immanuel in the fall semester.

All of these are important jobs. Please speak to Linda Chase or Tricia Stoffers if you are willing to help in the Sunday school in any way.

In addition, please note that Safety Training will be conducted following the service on Sunday, October 9 and again on Thursday, October 13 at 6:30 p.m. Anyone who is not previously certified and plans on working with our youth, must attend one of these sessions.

                           YOUTH CONNECTION

Begins This Wednesday September 14
From 6:30-8:15 in the Chittick Lounge

We will having an ice cream social to talk about our summer adventures  and discuss the upcoming year!
Please bring your registration form if you received one

CROP Walk Coming in October

There is a bond of love between each hunger walker and a street urchin sleeping in dark alleys and eating from garbage dumps. We walk to give him sanctuary.

This year new churches and schools are joining and the arrangements are in place at the Presbyterian Church of Toms River for the 2 PM walk.  There is much to celebrate!
