 Dear Friends,
It's one of the best-known and best-loved scripture passages of all time: 1 Corinthians chapter 13. Many of us associate this passage with weddings, but in fact it's not specifically about love in marriage.
Paul's writing here about love in the church: in particular about how Christians are meant to love each other even in the midst of conflict.
This is one of the richest chapters in all the Bible, and Paul's insights about love are relevant to any sort of human relationship: marriage, friendship, working together as members of Christ's church.
There's so much in this chapter, in fact, that I'm going to be be doing a whole sermon series on it in the coming months, working through it verse by verse.
We'll begin this week with the verse that immediately precedes this chapter: 1 Corinthians 12:31, "But strive for the greater gifts. And I will show you a still more excellent way." It sets the context for Paul's famous "hymn to love," reminding us of the particular situation that led him to wax on so eloquently about this human emotion.
We'll be ordaining and installing church officers this Sunday - for those people who were not able to be here at the June ordination/installation - and 1 Corinthians 12 is relevant for that rite as well, because of all its talk about spiritual gifts. We'll conclude the service with our monthly healing prayers.
So, do join us on this beautiful summer Sunday, as we prepare ourselves for a deep dive into the beauties of God's love for us, and our love for one another!
Pastor Carl

Looking for an "Angel" (or "Angels")
It probably sounds very odd to be talking now about Christmas, amidst the summer sunshine, but we have a need for a special financial gift (or gifts) to pay for the string quartet who will accompany the Chancel Choir's presentation of Antonio Vivaldi's Gloria during our morning worship service this December 11.
We need to raise $1,000 to pay for these professional musicians. It could be one single gift, or several. Would you be willing to be the "angel" who makes this happen (or one of several angels)?
Please speak to Bill Shoppell or to one of the pastors to find out more. Blessings!

Hungry Teenagers
Almost everyone knows how hungry teenagers can get. With Youth Connection starting up in a few weeks, we are looking for donations of snacks and treats that we can serve during our meetings. From donations of chips and snacks, to baked goods or even gift card donations to stores like Stop N Shop, we are asking for your help. We meet weekly and have about 10 kids on any given night. Even small donations, will save us money as well as contribute to the needs of others and allow you to be a part of this important ministry in our church.
Whether you make the treats yourself, or buy snacks at the store, your thoughtfulness and generosity in donating snacks will be greatly appreciated. Items can be dropped off in the church during the week and/or placed in the church kitchen. Does this sound like something you could help us with? Please contact Courtney Rzeplinski at 732-552-6737. Please mark all donations "Y outh Connection!"

A BIG THANK YOU to everyone who has helped in this year's picnic. Once again Frank and Kerry Jones have done a wonderful job in all the details that make our picnic a success time after time. For the past month they have worked hard in getting everything ready for all to enjoy.
In addition, thank you to Diane and Mike Manzo for their generous donation of all the hot dogs and hamburgers, to Randy Crate and Peter Farwell for moving the tables and chairs over, to Maria Tirpak for reserving and getting the tables set, to Carol Bonebrake for getting all the ice, to Maryanne Leach and Helen Unglaub for making sure we have all the items we needed for worship, to our master fisherman Bob Hankins and Sue Hankins for allowing us to use their keyboard, to Dave Satterlee for packing up, and to Cory Pula-Bowers for allowing us to use his sound system, just to name a few. Coordinating this event is no easy task. Thank you to everyone who helped make it an enjoyable day for the entire church.
