Dear Friends,
It didn't sound like an unreasonable plan. After several years of bumper crops, the farmer had a problem: no place to put his harvested grain.
It's similar to the problem faced by anyone who's ever had to go out and rent a storage locker: where to put all that stuff?
You can almost hear the anxiety in the man's voice: "What should I do, for I have no place to store my crops?"
It's what some would call, today, a First World Problem.
Jesus, ever-attentive to the needs of Third World people, has little sympathy. This fabulously wealthy man is anxious, deeply troubled - but he doesn't seem to realize there are others in his community who are impoverished: people struggling day by day to put food on the table, who would give their right arm for that sort of "problem."
Anxiety is real. It's a universal malady of human existence. We seem to suffer from anxiety, though, on a sliding scale. No sooner is one problem answered than we doggedly move on to the next one, giving over our days to fretting and our nights to sleeplessness.
Yes, anxiety is called up by specific problems, but it's also a habit. There's a remedy, and it doesn't have anything to do with problem-solving. Join us in worship this Sunday, as we explore what that is!

Picnic Theme: Go!
We are taking our worship theme at our picnic this year from the Youth Triennium. It was a one-word theme - Go. One of our young people who attended Triennium plans to be at the picnic and is excited about sharing some of her experiences there.
We hope that, during our informal worship service to be held at the park, others of you will also be willing to share a story of an experience of how the word "Go" has impacted your faith. "Go" is an important word in the Bible. Abraham was told to go to a land where God would show him. Moses was told to go to Egypt to free God's people from slavery. The lawyer who came to Jesus asking how he could gain eternal life was told the parable of the Good Samaritan. When Jesus asked him which of the three (Priest, Levite, Samaritan) had proved to be a neighbor, the lawyer answered, "The Samaritan". Jesus told him to "Go and do likewise."
How has God told you to go? Where is God telling us as a congregation to go? Think about this word in connection with your faith. Be willing to share with others in worship at the picnic. Hope to see you there!

POINT BEACH PREP
SUMMER CAMP
| | |
Summer camp has been fun and educational. Each week we have a different theme. Last week's theme was "the arts". We had art educator Karen Norby come in twice to our school. One day she did a lesson on puppetry. Finger, hand, rod, and marionette puppets were introduced and demonstrated. We each created our own puppets and used them in our puppet theatre. The second day she did a lesson on texture. The children created texture rubbings, using a crayon on paper to create implied textures from various objects they found in a bag.
Mid-week we had a musician come in and play the cello and violin for us. She taught us about the musical string family. Each of the students was offered the opportunity to play her violin. The Point Pleasant Children's Librarian came in at the end of that week to read to us and do other activities. We have been blessed and are grateful for our wonderful volunteers sharing their talents with our campers.
