Dear Friends,
This Sunday we celebrate Pentecost. Pentecost grew out of the Jewish festival of Shavuot which was a joyous celebration of the first fruits of the harvest that were dedicated to God. Of even greater significance was the fact that Shavuot was also the celebration of the giving of the Torah to the Jewish people and in particular, the giving of the 10 Commandments to Moses on Mt. Sinai.
On that first Pentecost, as is recorded in Acts 2, the Holy Spirit was poured out on the gathered community in Jerusalem. Nobody was excluded and all were touched by the Spirit's power. That is still true today. The Spirit of God which is the very breath of God, is poured out on all of God's creation and all of God's people.
Come dressed in red this Sunday and be open to the Holy Spirit filling you up and sending you forth. Spirit = Breath= Life.
The Spirit cameand your Church was born,in wind and fireand words of power. The Spirit cameblowing fear aside, and in its placeweak hearts were stronger. The Spirit cameas your word foretold, with dreams and signs, visions and wonders. The Spirit cameand is here today,to feed the heartsof a world that hungers.
Blessings,

 Dear Church Family,
Please join my husband John, daughter Lillian, and myself for a very special coffee hour. We want to thank each of you personally for keeping us in your thoughts and prayers during my pregnancy. We want to let you know that we appreciated every meal, card, phone call, and text during our time of need. Please join us in coffee hour and meet our baby Lillian, and also stop by the side table and learn more about my pregnancy condition called hyperemesis gravidarum. We can't wait to thank you!
Sincerely,

YOUTH CONNECTION APPRECIATION -
I am so grateful to for all of the youth connection advisers who diligently cared for the youth connection this past year. When I went on disability, and eventually maternity leave, I knew the youth were in good hands. Thank you to Tony, for taking over the lead role in my absence, and to Chris, Carol, Marian, and Jason for your dedicated service to the church and the youth connection! Courtney Rzeplinski
COFFEE HOUR is an integral part of our fellowship with each other and also a great way to meet and greet visitors to our church. We are in need of coffee hour hosts for May 29th.
Sharing Coffee Hour responsibilities with another person can be more fun! It is a good idea to check the kitchen for needed supplies prior to Sunday morning. Paper products are provided by the church, the coffee is started in the morning by Jake. Besides setup and clean up, hosts are asked to bring simple items as well as a gallon of milk and one quart of half-and-half. A sign-up sheet in located on the bulletin board on the kitchen wall near the water cooler. To sign up or if you have any questions please contact Elaine Conheeney at 732-295-1884. LOST AND FOUND - Please check the lost and found basket in the North Hall for possible misplaced items. We have had a few items left behind this week including a Jets Sweatshirt.
REMINDER - Please secure all doors and lights when you leave the buildings. The last one out is asked to please check all the doors. Thank you.
BLUE CLAWS GAME - We are once again planning a Blue Claws Night Out on Friday June 17, 2016. Tickets will be $10 for adults, $8 for children 10 and under. There will be fireworks after the game. To purchase tickets or more information please speak with Dee D'Amore at 732-552-9861 or call the church office.

Rebecca Crate Ordination at Pt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church, May 22, 3:00 PM
May 22 will be a day of celebration for our church as Rebecca Crate will be ordained as a Teaching Elder (Minister of the Word and Sacrament) by the Presbytery of Monmouth, here in our Sanctuary. From her baptism, to her confirmation, to her call to ministry, Becca has been a part of this congregation, and we are honored to be a part of this great occasion. The Presbytery of Baltimore has voted to receive Becca as a member upon her ordination, and she will begin her ministry as Pastor of the Springfield Presbyterian Church of Sykesville, Maryland.
After receiving her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Graphic Design at Arcadia University, Becca went on to Princeton Seminary and earned her Masters of Divinity degree in 2012. Becca and her wife, Lorna, then moved to Edinburgh, Scotland. It was there that she attended the University of Edinburgh's New College, earning her Masters of Theology in Ministry.
As an artist, Becca has become very interested in liturgical-based art, primarily in the form of 3D installations. During her studies in ministry at the University of Edinburgh, she explored the use of art in Reformed Worship through her dissertation, "Visual Art as an Enhancement of or Distraction from Reformed Worship." Some of you may remember her Bethlehem Star this past Christmas. Once again her own creations will be incorporated as part of the Ordination service.
Please join us, with the entire Crate family, in the Sanctuary on Sunday, May 22 at 3:00 p.m. for this joyous occasion. A reception will follow in the CE Annex.

PPPC to Host Monmouth Presbytery, Saturday, May 21 Next Saturday, May 21, from 9:00 am till mid-afternoon, we're going to be hosting the meeting of Monmouth Presbytery. The Presbytery is composed of 45 Presbyterian congregations including PPPC, and is the next higher council, or governing body, above the Session. Approximately 100 people will be joining us: pastors and associate pastors of the Presbytery's congregations, ruling elder commissioners elected by the Sessions, as well as specialized ministers, all make up the Presbytery.
The Chancel Choir will be singing for the morning worship service, which begins at 9:45 am, and the Rev. Larissa Kwong-Abazia, Vice-Moderator of the General Assembly, will be the preacher.
Thanks, in advance, to members of Presbyterian Women who will be preparing lunch for the Presbytery that day, as well as to the Chancel Choir and other PPPC folk who will be giving of their time to welcome our fellow Presbyterians and make their visit here a rich experience.
While only members of Presbytery and elected commissioners can vote in the business meeting, all are most welcome to attend the meeting, and in particular to join in the worship service at 9:45. After worship, the Presbytery will be recessing its business meeting for some educational workshops on money and stewardship in the church: all are welcome to attend these, as well.

Use Your Smartphone to Give to the Church! HOW TO GIVE BY TEXT: Try using your smartphone to make a gift to the church - it's easy, fun and secure! Just text a dollar sign followed by the dollar amount, (example: $10) to our church's dedicated give-by-text phone number, 732-451-7575. The first time you give, you'll receive a text reply telling you how to enter your preferred payment method (credit/debit card number information or your bank routing and account number). You'll get an immediate text message back, confirming that the gift has gone through. The system will remember your payment details - so, after your first gift, future gifts are easier and quicker than writing a check! Electronic gifts are reported on the quarterly pledge statement we send you, just like any other gift. When you're in church, feel free to take one of the Alternative Offering cards from the pew rack and place it in the offering plate, as an act of worship. |
Sunday School News
Hello everyone!
Last week, we took some time to celebrate all of the moms in our life! Our craft in the 1st-5th grade room made us stop and reflect on why our moms/grandmothers/aunts and other mom in our lives are special. What do they do for us? More importantly what would we do without them?? We made a fun craft just for Mom telling her why we think she's the best. Our Pre-K/K room thought about what the best gift they could possible give was. The answer? Their love! They made a beautiful craft to give to remind Mom of how special she is (thank you, so much, Ms. Karen for the wonderful idea!!) I hope that everyone enjoyed celebrating Mother's Day and recognized the special Moms in their lives. This week, we are turning our attention back to Moses. I found a wonderful movie put out by Disney called "The Prince of Egypt". This film chronicles the life and stories of Moses and his amazing life. We are going to start watching it this weekend, then take some time to discuss we viewed and what happened.I hope to see you all on Sunday!
Peace and Blessings,
Tricia Stoffers

This Week at Point Beach Prep
Last week we enjoyed our Mother's Day Teas. Moms were invited in to the upstairs annex and they were treated to cheese and crackers, fresh fruit, and other yummy goodies.
The High School Food and Fashion Club baked us delicious flower shaped cookies. Our students sang songs for them and made them special projects. The students wore beautiful flower hats and top hats made by the High School Child Development Class.
Our Pre-K parents watched a special video with a picture slideshow and a clip of each child telling Mommy why they loved her. Special thanks to Howard Gilbert and Frank Jones for their technical assistance with the computer and projector.
Another thank you to the Child Development Class, who assisted with the Nursery Tea, and to Sue Perkowski, Liz Ploskonka and Nancy Cook, members of the PBP Board who assisted the day of the Pre-K Tea. It was a lovely event put on by our wonderful Point Beach Prep Staff. All moms and children left with a big smile!

Church World Service, 70 Years Young
Throughout the year, we offer various opportunities to support Church World Service in its relief and resettlement work around the globe. Blanket Sunday, PW's appeal for emergency kits and the CROP Walk all support various aspects of CWS' work.
This brief video tells one mother's story, who credits CWS with saving her child's life through a community nutrition program in the tiny nation of East Timor, located just east of Indonesia:
THANK YOU for your support of our global mission work through CWS!
