Rock of Life Alternative Worship Service
this Saturday, April 16th.
Special time, this week only: 4:00 pm
(see below for more information)

Dear Friends,

If this fascinating, months-long process of elimination known as the Presidential campaign has taught us one thing, it's the value of plain speaking. Each of the candidates still standing is an expert practitioner of that art.

They have to be. You don't survive long in the spotlight of a national campaign unless your listeners can proudly say you "tell it like it is," that you speak to their deepest concerns and aspirations.

There's a time in this week's scripture reading from John 10 when several prominent religious leaders ask Jesus the same thing: "If you are the Messiah, tell us plainly."

Jesus' reply doesn't exactly qualify as a sound-bite: "I have told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in my Father's name testify to me; but you do not believe, because you do not belong to my sheep..."

So, what's he saying here about how Christians come to believe? He's saying it's more than just what we think about him: the words of our personal confession of faith, the theological concepts we adopt as our own. Jesus doesn't seem at all interested in debating the religious leaders on such points.

Christian discipleship engages our hearts as well as our heads. It's not enough to simply believe in him: we've also got to belong to him.

Join us in worship this Sunday morning, as we explore what it means to belong, as well as to believe!

The evening before (Saturday the 16th), we also invite you also to the "Rock of Life" Alternative Worship Service (please note special time: 4:00 pm). We had over 60 people in attendance last week, the very first time we offered this service, in an informal contemporary-music style. Check it out!

Blessings,

New Adult Study on Prayer

Coming soon, a new adult study which asks, "Are you satisfied with your prayer life? Would you like to grow in this area of your spiritual life?" Consider joining with others to be part of a class called Pray, Eat, Grow. We will be using the book The Workbook of Living Prayer by Maxie Dunnam. This is a 20th anniversary updated version of a book that has sold over 500,000 copies and changed countless lives.

It is a 7 week study which uses a workbook format. A time commitment of 20-30 minutes a day will be needed outside of the weekly class. There is a daily reading which provides guidance in your individual prayer journey. We will share our insights, our
growing edges and learning as we gather for our weekly group journey.

The class will meet on Mondays beginning May 2nd. The first class will be for an hour and the next 6 classes will run from 10:30 to noonish. Since the last study group enjoyed having a meal together each week, we will build that into our class. This is the EAT part of the Pray, Eat, Grow.

The cost of the book is $10. If you have questions about the class please see Linda Chase. There is a sign up in the church narthex or call the church office. Books need to be ordered soon.

Paint Party

Thank you to Dee D'Amore for organizing a Paint Party fundraiser last Friday.  We had 16 people come out and join in the fun.  Over $350 was raised for the Church.  We may do another paint party in the Fall. If you are interested in attending one, please let Dee know.

SUNDAY SCHOOL

Sunday School News

Hello everyone!

Another week, another step closer to warmer weather!

I hope you all enjoyed your week!  Last week,we had a great time and showed our creative side by working on our special craft called a "Blessing Cup."  While studying the Beatitudes, last week, we started talking more about blessings.

Christ talked about how following the word of God would lead to being blessed by God. We thought really hard about the blessings in our own lives and realized that the more we looked  for them, the more we found!  Our craft last week was the Blessing Cup.  It's simply a place to write down some of our blessings and keep them handy for those days when we may not necessarily be feeling so grateful. Each of the kids decorated their own cups to suit their own unique personalities.  Then we took little slips of paper and wrote down one blessing per piece of paper, and placed it in the cup.  When we were done, the famous saying was true - our cups really did runneth over!

This week is going to be a fun way to wrap up our lesson on the Beatitudes....and it is going to taste pretty good, too!  I hope you all will be able to make it!

See you on Sunday.

Peace and Blessings,
Tricia Stoffers
POINT BEACH PREP

This Week at Point Beach Prep

X marks the spot!  This week we looked at x-rays, played xylophones, and went on a pirate hunt with a map marked with an X.  We learned sign language for X and
"xylophone".  Some of our books included Xander's Panda Party and Xavier Ox's Xylophone.

On Friday the Child Development Class is coming in to make fruit kabobs with the children to serve for snack.   We have been very busy making projects and practicing songs for our upcoming Mother's Day Tea.  See you next week with letter Y!

PRESBYTERIAN WOMEN

MISSION

Show appreciation for your mom with a gift in her honor

Motherly love is a lasting gift that women give to their children. Around the world, women express this love by striving to provide their children with lives free from poverty.

Show gratitude to your mom by helping families overcome poverty through the Women's Empowerment Project featured in the Presbyterian Giving Catalog. This project empowers African women in places like Cameroon where 1,000 donated chickens are affording families a sustainable food source by producing eggs each day, while helping to increase soil fertility. The project is also helping 500 women in the same region increase yam yields by as much as 85 percent by teaching agricultural techniques, producing organic fertilizer and practicing ecologically sound farming.

Your gift today will make a difference in the lives of these mothers and their families and serve as a wonderful tribute to your own mother.
