Easter Worship in the Sanctuary
9:00 & 11:00 a.m.
(Sunday School begins in worship at 9:00)

Dear Friends,

It was the greatest news the world had ever known - but for those who heard it first, there was only fear and confusion.

As far as the disciples knew, the news that Jesus had been seen walking around, apparently healthy, could mean only one thing: he was a ghost.

Of course he was not a ghost, but it took some doing for Jesus to teach them what had really taken place, in the early hours of the morning that first Easter Day. He had to invite Thomas to touch his wounds. To others he said - as in this Sunday's scripture passage - "Touch me and see; for a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you see that I have." He even ate a piece of fish in their presence, to show that the resurrection was real - and maybe also because he was hungry!

It was no wonder the disciples reacted with confused astonishment. It wasn't that they were slow learners: this was something unprecedented, entirely new! We in his church sometimes lose track of that fact, after two millennia of Easter celebrations. We've come to accept the reality of resurrection, in ways the disciples hadn't yet been able to accept.

For us, the resurrection is a promise. Paul describes Jesus as "the first fruits of those who have died" (1 Cor. 15:20). For farmers, the first fruits are a sign of promise: one small part of the harvest has come in, but there's much more to come! So, too, we don't expect loved ones who have died to return and walk among us, but we do - by faith - expect that in time, or maybe outside of time, they live again in the heavenly places.

The details of new life in Christ are a mystery too large for small minds like ours to comprehend. But it's a joyous mystery nonetheless: and one we receive - and celebrate - by faith.

Join us as we do that very thing, this Easter Day!

Electronic Giving This Easter

During this Easter holiday, we hope you'll consider giving a special monetary gift to commemorate the season. It's through your donations that we are able to carry on important work both spiritually and in the community. For your convenience, we offer electronic giving options that allow you to contribute when and how you prefer. You don't have to remember cash or your checkbook to support the special Easter offering, which supports both the local mission of Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church and our mission outreach around the world.

We offer two forms of electronic giving:

(1) Through a special form on our website.
You can access this webpage either by using a computer or by scanning this code using your smartphone:

You'll have to go through a simple registration process the first time you use this service (after that, the system will remember your information). You have the option of giving by direct debit from your bank account, or by using a credit or debit card.

(2) Through our Give-By-Text option.
NEW! Simply send a text to 732-451-7575

Click on the link and enter your cardholder name and credit or debit card information. Once your registration is complete, you will receive a text verification and a receipt via email. For future giving, simply send a text with the amount you wish to give, and it will process automatically!

You'll find that electronic giving is secure, fast and easy to use. Thank you for all you do to support our mission during Easter and throughout the year!
PPPC's "ROCK OF LIFE" Alternative Worship Service Series
Commencing Saturday, April 9, 2016

Psalm 18:2: "The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer, my God, my rock in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn my salvation, my stronghold."

Series One: "KEYS FOR LIVING A RESURRECTED LIFE"
(Seven Weeks Duration)

Week One (April 9, 2016): "Grace Without Boundaries" (John 20:19-30)

At Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church, we understand that we are all uniquely formed by God, and that each of us desires intimacy with God that is further enhanced through alternative worship styles, bringing together diversified individuals, while also upholding all of our Presbyterian (USA) traditional values and beliefs.

We have listened to our congregation's desire for exploring this understanding further, and we believe, in hearing God's voice, to further explore an alternative worship service at PPPC. What better time to start "a new thing" than following our Easter celebration and witnessing the resurrected Christ?

Come join us for the commencement of an "alternative worship service" series lasting seven weeks, as we assemble for worship with contemporary music, active participation from our youth, and a collection of seven messages for daily applications entitled "Keys For Living a Resurrected Life." Our first service of the series will be entitled "Grace Without Boundaries." Fearing life without the physical living Jesus, the church's earliest disciples chose to remain behind locked doors. However, Jesus Christ presented himself unexpectedly to teach a new way of thinking: grace without boundaries...

Our first alternative worship service series will commence on April 9, 2016, a Saturday, from 5:00 pm to 6:00 pm in the Sanctuary. The service will be led by Anthony Maimone, a recent graduate of New Brunswick Theological Seminary, who was also a student of Pastor Carl, and who recently met all of his written examination requirements for the Presbyterian (USA) Church, and will be coming before the Monmouth Presbytery this Spring to move forward with his final requirements to able to accept a call for ordination. Anthony has also been one of the Youth Connection leaders under Courtney's leadership this past year. PPPC's Youth Connection teens and advisers will also be participating in and leading the service.

We ask that you prayerfully contemplate your participation in this alternative worship service series as the Holy Spirit may lead you. You may also want to extend an invitation to your friends and neighbors who are seeking to draw closer to God in worship.

"Behold, I will do a new thing, now it shall spring forth!" (Isaiah 43:19; NKJV).

For further information, you can also contact Anthony directly at [email protected] or 732-722-8006. Peace and Blessings.

SUNDAY SCHOOL

Sunday School News

Hello everyone!

First, please let me say that I am so proud of these kids for their part in the service last week! They did so great! Everyone followed directions and sang their hearts out.  To my Doves, I am so proud of you guys too.  You all sang beautifully and paid such close attention to Mr. Bill.  I have had church members contacting me all week, telling me how wonderful the service was and how much they enjoy seeing the kids as an active part of it.  So, thank you, and well done!

Last week, in Sunday School, we held our final discussion on Jesus' death.  I know I keep saying it, but I really am impressed with the maturity the kids have shown over the course of this unit.  We talked about the events that occurred on Palm Sunday, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, and what they mean to us and our eternity.  After our lesson, we completed a craft called "I am", which reviewed all of the things Jesus was referred to as in the Bible.  "I am....the bread of life", and so on.  We made sure to close with our prayer thanking God for all of the wonderful things in our life that He has provided.

This week...EASTER!  All of these somber discussions are leading to one of my favorite Sunday School days.  This Sunday, we WILL still be having Sunday School during the 9 am service.  We will be talking about the Resurrection and having a little Easter party to celebrate.

After Sunday School, we will be having our annual Egg Hunt at 10:15.
A few things to note:
  • There will be two egg hunts: one for Pre K/K in the play yard and one for 1st-5th in the yard on the side of the church building
  • Parents are to pick up their child(ren) from Sunday School first, then escort their child(ren) to the proper egg hunt.
  • Children will only be released after the egg hunt to a parent or guardian.
Also, please note the time change in Sunday School.  Since there are two services this week - 9 and 11 - Sunday School will be held during the 9AM service.

Looking forward to seeing everyone this weekend!

Peace and Blessings

POINT BEACH PREP

This Week at Point Beach Prep

This week we learned letter V.  The Child Development Class from the High School came over and read The Very Hungry Caterpillar.  They used felt pieces to have our kids help tell the story.  Then we measured our students to see how many caterpillars tall they were.

Other visitors this week included our families for Student of the Week.  Our PreK Mom read a story and made cute bunny hats with everyone.  Our Nursery Dad came in with his guitar and played lots of fun songs for us all to sing along with.

On Wednesday and Thursday we did science experiments.  We simulated a volcanic eruption using food coloring, baking soda and vinegar.  We made volcanoes out of play dough.  We poured the vinegar over the baking soda and food coloring and it reacted by fizzing up and out of our volcanoes.  Science is fun!

At our project table we made vegetable prints, volcanoes, and vases.  We read Victor Vito, Vegetable Soup, Night of the Veggie Monster, Vincent Paints his House, Clifford's Easter and the Night Before Easter.  We made bunny baskets, dyed eggs and had an Easter egg hunt!  We also sang the Bunny Hokey Pokey.

We celebrated a few birthdays and welcomed Spring.  It was a very fun week!

We wish everyone a Happy Easter!
