Concert for Syrian Refugee Aid this Saturday, Feb. 6th
This Saturday afternoon, February 6th is the date, 3:00 pm is the time... for the concert fund-raiser to aid Syrian refugees in Lebanon. You can read more about it here.
The concert will take place in the church Sanctuary. Tickets are available at the door for a donation of $10. All proceeds from the concert will be wired the next business day to Solidarity Through Humanity, that will use the money to purchase and deliver heating fuel and other needed supplies to the Issa El Sheikh refugee camp in the mountains of Lebanon, near the Syrian border. The church is pleased to provide the location for this event, which is being presented by local musicians under the leadership of April Centrone. |
Dear Friends, "The face is the mirror of the mind, and eyes without speaking confess the secrets of the heart." So said St. Jerome, expressing a profound psychological truth. The face is a key element in human communication. We look to one another's faces all the time for clues about what the other person is thinking and feeling. When we're unable to see someone's face - as when the other person is wearing a mask - we become anxious and jittery. One of the reasons so many email and social media flame wars get started is because information from the face is lacking.
Coming down from Mount Sinai after talking with God, Moses "did not know that the skin of his face shone" (Exodus 34:29). His encounter with the Lord had changed him, in ways he was only beginning to understand.
What did Moses see? What did God see in him? What do others see in us, knowing we are followers of the Risen One?
Come to worship this Sunday, as we explore questions like these, and as we celebrate the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper!

This Week at Point Beach Prep
What a successful Open House we had! We only have 1 space available in the Nursery and 1 left in the Pre-K for the upcoming 2016/2017 school year. If you know someone who is interested, please have them call immediately before those spots are gone! This week we learned the letter P. We had a pajama pancake party! We pretended to be pirates, played with our parachute, and used our peg boards. We read many books that start with P including If You Give a Pig a Pancake and Pirates Don't Change Diapers. At our project table we made police cars, pirate ships, pig noses, pom pom painting, and pine cone art.
On Thursday, we explored the art of puppetry with art educator Karen Norby. Finger, hand, rod and marionette puppets were introduced and demonstrated to the students. We then created our own animal puppets using different shapes on pre-folded construction paper. The children really enjoyed the demonstration! Thank you, Mrs. Norby!

This week we received a thank you note poster from the Valentine House for the gifts and Ephiphany Party that was hosted by the Deacons. Thank you to everyone who provided a gift this past Christmas through the Giving Tree. The poster is on display in the Fellowship Room.
