Lord:
In the midst of Winter, when the days are cold and wind can pierce
..... remind us of the warmth of your love.

In the midst of Winter, when days are short, dawn comes late, and dusk arrives early
..... remind us that in the darkness your light still shines.

In the midst of Winter, when the flowers of spring still lie hidden in the earth, when leaves are off the trees, and the world can seem bleak
..... remind us that Easter is but a short time away.

And when in our lives we feel as if we are experiencing a season of winter, reach out to us with the power of your resurrection so that we may feel the warmth of your love and see your light that alone can take away the darkness of our soul.

Amen

Third Sunday of Ordinary Time

10:00 a.m. - Worship/Noisy Offering
10:00 a.m. - Sunday School  Cancelled

Coins - noisy offering Noisy Offering

We all have some--in a jar on the dresser, in a desk drawer, in the car, maybe even in the cushions of the couch. Loose change accumulates in various locations of our household. Those humble coins can help feed someone. This Sunday, we'll collect the Noisy Offering that - through Monmouth Presbytery's Cents-Ability appeal - supports ministries to relieve hunger locally, regionally, and globally.

Lenten Adult Bible Study
Soup and Spoon
Are you up for a fun Lenten study this year? Then sign up for this one called BREAD AND BROTH. Each week we will look at a character from the Bible and pair it with a soup. For example, session one is Jacob and the soup is lentil. (See Genesis 25:29-30.)

This is a 6 week study and will begin Monday, February 15th.  The class will run from 11:00 a.m until Noonish. Recipes for the soups are included and we would share the fun of making (or buying) the soups for the rest of the class. The cost of the book is $10.

There is a sign up for the class (and soups) in the Narthex or call the church office or speak to Linda Chase. Come join us for this first ever kind of class.

Presbyterian Women's Fundraiser

The Women's Bean Project sales before Christmas were great and PW thanks you all for your support! We have covered our purchase and shipping charges and are now working on earning the profits that will help pay for our nursery personnel.

We still have an assortment of items available that would make great additions to any Super Bowl party or home baked Valentine dessert! They are also a great way to say "thank you", either pre-baked or in its colorful bag, to show your appreciation to someone special.

We will have some small samples available next Sunday before the start of the Congregational Meeting. Help yourself to a sample and please consider a small purchase.

Your support not only helps your own church, but impoverished and unemployed women who depend on programs like the Women's Bean Project which provides jobs and life skills for those who would otherwise have a difficult time. This allows them to support their families and be contributing members to their local communities.

Here is their mission statement and you can be a part of it:
The mission of Women's Bean Project is to change women's lives
by providing stepping stones to self-sufficiency through social enterprise.

This Week at Point Beach Prep

N is for Nurse! On Monday we had Nurse Lisa come to our Pre-K class. She spoke about healthy habits, including lots of hand washing and eating healthy. She also talked about staying away from the medicine cabinet. The children received surgical masks, gloves and a sterile hat.

Our friends heard lots of Nursery Rhymes this week, and sang the nose song. They made noodle necklaces, neckties, number flash cards, and nests. They discussed all the different animals that make nests. They learned sign language for "no" and "night." They read The Napping House, Noah's Ark, Naughty Monkeys, and more. This week was neat!

YOUTH CONNECTION

Souper Bowl of Caring

souperbowl pot
On February 7th, our Youth Connection will be joining other youth around the country to make a difference. On February 7, please bring a food (canned or box) for our food pantry and /or make a donation in one of the soup pots they'll be holding at the doors as you leave worship. Last year our youth collected $375.68 in cash as well as food items that was given to St. Gregory's Pantry. This offering reminds us that a little gift given in faith can become more than we could ever imagine.

MISSION

A Lesson from the Andes: God's Mission Takes Every Hand

Hunter Farrell is Director of World Mission for the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). In a recent article, he tells this story from his days as a mission worker in Peru:

One bitterly cold morning in 2006, I participated in a beautiful custom in Santa Barbara that took place when a herd of vicuņa (the graceful relatives of the Andean llama) wandered down into the community from their high-altitude habitat. In order to round up the vicuņa and harvest some of their valuable wool, the community arose well before sunrise, joined hands and slowly walked up the side of a steep hill to gather the vicuņa herd into a fenced corral. After these beautiful, untamed animals were calmed, the wool of several of them was sheared and they were released. The Santa Barbara community believes that tukuy maki ("every hand") is needed for this important mission. If a child is sick or an expectant mother is about to give birth and cannot participate in the rigorous climb to the round-up in the high meadow, they send along a prenda - a handkerchief - or some other personal item that symbolizes that the community engages in its mission with their blessing. There's a widespread belief that, without the blessing of every hand, the mission cannot be a success.

I think the people of Santa Barbara are onto something: in an age where our culture's value of "rugged individualism" can grow to become self-centeredness, fragmentation and disunity, many U.S. Presbyterians today engage in God's mission on their own. They travel with "their money," on "their time" to do "their mission," as one mission leader told me last summer. But Scripture reminds us that it is God's mission, not ours, and that we are graciously invited to join in that mission as God's people, not as "lone rangers" (the Great Commission in Matthew 28:18-20 is a plural command, addressed to all God's people).

You can read Hunter's full article on the PC(USA) Global Mission web page.
