Friends,

We are a people of stories. Down through history, before there was such a thing as writing, people passed down stories of who they were, and who God is.

We've just finished a sermon series on the parables. Jesus was a master storyteller. Parables form a large portion of all the things the scriptures record him saying.  Surely he said much more, but it's the parables that stand out in memory.

Even today, stories resonate with us. Candidates running for office have learned it's far more compelling to tell stories than to rattle off a lot of dry statistics. The stories and the numbers both speak to the point, but it's the stories people remember.

For the next four weeks, we're going to be reflecting on the role of story in our lives. The sermon series, "We Have a Story," will touch on these themes:

Oct. 25 - God's Story
Nov. 1 - Our Story
Nov. 8 - My Story
Nov. 15 - Telling the Story

The stories belonging to each of us find their place in the greater story of salvation in Jesus Christ, communicated by God to the human race down through history. (That's why we call it "history" - HIS story.)

It's a story that still speaks powerfully to the deepest hurts and hungers within each of us.

Running through the series is the theme of generosity. On the final Sunday, we'll have an opportunity to make our financial giving commitments for 2016.

Along the way, we'll have a chance to hear some of your stories: both in the written "points of special enthusiasm" testimonies (see below) and during Minutes for Mission in the worship service.

Yes, we do have a story: a story to hear, a story to hold, a story to tell, a story to live!

Greetings!

The story of our church, as we journey on the path of Christian discipleship, is recorded from the rich collection of the individual stories of our members. During our journey together, each of us experiences facets of church that are especially significant to us (aspects of worship, music, education, fellowship, service, times of hardship, etc.)

Would you kindly share your "point of special enthusiasm" regarding your life at PPPC?  Is there one part of your church experience in which you delight?

The Outreach Committee has set out to gather these "points of special enthusiasm" and then share them with our church members in the coming days. Kindly describe your "point of special enthusiasm" on the form online, and place it in the basket in the narthex. Or, you may prefer to email your thoughts to Frank Perkowski at blueclaw61@verizon.net.

Perhaps you will act right away, so we may begin our display quickly. That would be great!

Thank you for taking a moment to share with us!

Noisy Offering

Coin jar
We all have some--in a jar on the dresser, in a desk drawer, in the car, maybe even in the cushions of the couch. Loose change accumulates in various locations of our household. Those humble coins can help feed someone. This Sunday, we'll collect the Noisy Offering that - through Monmouth Presbytery's Cents-Ability appeal - supports ministries to relieve hunger locally, regionally, and globally.
Point Pleasant Pancake Breakfast
This Coming Sunday!
Sponsored by PPPC Youth Connection

The Youth of Point Pleasant Presbyterian is sponsoring a Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, October 26th immediately following service.

Come enjoy delicious home-style pancakes and other breakfast treats!  Our loving tradition in hosting this event tells us that everyone's appetite will be satisfied--with no leftovers to spare!

The Youth will also be collecting donations at this event to help raise monies for their year-long mission-driven activities.  Our Youth Connection's mission is to build-up our youth with Christ at the center of their lives and to make a meaningful impact in our communities!

We welcome all of you-please bring a friend or two!  Come and enjoy time with your PPPC church family and make new friends!

(If you would like to help the Youth prepare and serve, please contact Carol Bonebrake at (tele) 732-581-1554 or email:carolbonebrake@comcast.net)

Prayerfully Consider

"Do not worry about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God."  Philippians 4:6

The Prayer Family for the week of October 25 is the Flannelly family. Let us be prayerfully aware of Bud and Elaine, as well as all our members and friends.

Prayer concerns: The family of Vincent DeMartino; John Leddy; Betty Grunstra and her husband (Volunteers in the Village); Rebecca Nickerson (Linda Chase's daughter); Courtney Norton Rzeplinski; Les Thornton; Dawson Wittmann; Bill Williams.

Long term concerns: Bill Blauvelt (Jacque Thornton's brother in law); Kathryn Feldman (Bill Shoppell's sister); George Griffiths (Cousin of Heidi Steinert); Ethel Lemke (mother in law of Scott Smith); Margie McGhee; Erna Meyerle (friend of Susan Robbins); Jim Millar; Gerda Mooney; Cherisse Petruzzi; Edith Pula; Gemma Roberts; Mary Steinert; Stan Thornton; those struggling with addictions and mental illness.

Military: Michael Fahey III; Matthew Warren; all those in our nation's service.

Let me take this opportunity to say "Thanks" to all who had a hand in last Sunday's celebration of my 25th anniversary as Pastor of this wonderful congregation!

I was truly surprised by the tribute offered by Linda during the worship service - as well as by the wonderful words offered by Robin Lostetter, who journeyed all the way back here for the occasion. The cruise on the River Queen was a joy: great food, perfect fall weather, a chance to view Barnegat Bay vistas that have been dear to me all my life - and most of all, an opportunity to spend time with the many family members, church members and good friends who were able to join us that afternoon.

I feel truly blessed, and privileged to serve this great congregation.

Thank you to all who had a hand in planning the celebration!

Pastor Carl

Church Photo Directory
Church Directory Announcement

We are excited to create a Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church Photo Directory!

PHOTOS:
We need your photo! If you have a recent family photo (within the last year) that you would like to use, send that picture to our special email address pppcdirectory@gmail.com .  All photos must be either jpg, bmp or png files only.

If you need a picture taken, Greg Hall from our church has volunteered to take photos after church in the CE Annex the next two Sundays (October 25 and November 1).   It only takes a few moments: smile for the camera, confirm your contact information and we're done! Please try to make it to Church on one of these Sundays so we can get everyone's photo in the directory!

INFORMATION:
We also need your family's contact information. Diane Legreide and Carol Bonebrake will help gather the correct information for the directory.  While Greg is taking pictures, Diane and Carol will be verifying your information.  If you are submitting a photo through the email, still verify your information on the list Diane and Carol have.  When sending your picture through the email please include your name, address, phone number including cell and email address with your photo.

QUESTIONS:
If you have any questions, please call Diane Legreide at 732-899-8975 or the church office.
Session Highlights At their October 20, 2015 meeting, the Session took the following actions:

1. Heard a presentation from Presbytery representatives the Rev. David Cotton, the Rev. Christina Hindley and the Rev. N. Scott Cupp about ways of strengthening the relationship between this congregation and the Presbytery. This is part of a visitation campaign the Presbytery is conducting with all the churches.

2. Noted with concern that youth director Courtney Norton Rzeplinski is going on disability for a time. Anthony Maimone and other Youth Connection advisors will carry on with that program in the meantime.

3. Made plans for Hanging of the Greens to take place after worship on the First Sunday of Advent, November 29.

4. Learned that both Sunday School and Point Beach Prep have gotten off to a strong start.

5. Decided to seek an estimate for a new dehumidifier for the church basement.

6. Decided to fund new commodes for the CE Annex rest rooms from leftover CE Annex maintenance funds rather than the Volunteer Village Building Restoration Fund.

7. Appointed a committee consisting of Lynn Hahm (chair), Elaine Conheeney, Sue Hankins and Donna Norton to review and propose revisions to the church's Child Protection Policy.

8. Made further plans for a new church pictorial directory to be produced in-house, with family photos either provided by church members or taken by Greg Hall following upcoming worship services.

9. Discussed the need for a new illuminated sign outside the CE Annex and noted the need for additional funds for this project.

POINT BEACH PREP

Point Beach Prep had a visit from a local brother/sister musician duo on Wednesday.  They brought a guitar and flute to play and sing songs with us.  We
sang children's songs about Fall, jack o'lanterns, and  owls.  They finished with a classical song on the flute.

On Thursday, we stretched and moved our bodies with Yoga!  Emma Mammano, the mom of one of our students, is a Yoga Instructor who came in to teach us some poses.  What a fun week!
MISSION

Operation Christmas Child
Shoe Boxes are due November 15

Since 1993, more than 100 million boys and girls in over 130 countries have experienced God's love through the power of simple shoebox gifts from Operation Christmas Child. Once again the PW will be working with Samaritan's Purse to deliver the gifts and share the life-changing Good News of Jesus Christ.

1. Shoebox
Use an empty shoebox (standard size, please) or a small plastic container. You can wrap the box (lid separately), but wrapping is not required. Most importantly, pray for the child who will receive your gift.

2. Boy or Girl
Determine whether your gift will be for a boy or a girl, and the child's age category: 2-4, 5-9, or 10-14. Print out the appropriate boy/girl label by downloading the artwork to the right. Mark the correct age category on the label, and tape the label to the top of your box.

3. Fill with Gifts
Fill the box with a variety of gifts that will bring delight to a child. Use the gift ideas provided on the bottom of this page. Please include at least one item a child can immediately embrace such as a stuffed toy, doll, ball or toy truck.

4. $7 Donation
Please donate $7 or more for each shoebox you prepare to help cover shipping and other project costs. You can write a check to Samaritan's Purse (note "OCC" on memo line) and place it in an envelope on top of the gift items inside your box. If you or your family are preparing more than one shoebox, please make one combined donation.

5. Drop Off
Place a rubber band around each closed shoebox and drop it off in the North Hall before November 15, 2015.

Gift Ideas

Become a YAV! (Early Application Deadline is December 1, for Summer 2016)

Want to put your faith into action?

Want to grow as a leader in Christian service?

Want to see what God is doing in the world while serving a local community?

The Young Adult Volunteer (YAV) Program just may be for you.

A year of service
for a lifetime of change.

The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.)'s Young Adult Volunteer program is a one-year service opportunity for young adults from 19 to 30 years of age. YAVs live in intentional Christian community, deepening and developing their faith while serving alongside partners in sites across the United States and around the world. YAVs serve for one academic year, August - July, as they explore God's calling in their lives.

Volunteers are placed in community agencies or local churches, with jobs depending on the needs of partners and the skills of the Young Adult Volunteer. YAVs are exposed to some of the hardest problems in the world - poverty, violence and reconciliation, and sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ - while living and reflecting with other volunteers on the meaning and motivation of their Christian faith.

Each YAV experience is different - but all YAVs will participate in a mutual discernment process to become a part of the program, receive national and on-site orientation, work closely with mentors and peers, participate in vocational discernment activities, and integrate the whole experience at a transition retreat. All YAVs receive health insurance and student loan repayment is available for qualified applicants. The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), you and your supporting congregation and presbytery, and some placement agencies share funding of this program. All volunteers are required to raise some of their financial support - the requirements for fundraising have been cut in half since 2013 - to $3,000 for national service and $4,000 for international service. A limited number of scholarships are also available each year.

More information and application information is available online.
