Friends,

A few years back I was given a beautiful calendar as a Christmas gift that was based on the 23rd psalm.  Each month had a verse or half of
Psalm 23:4 KJV
a verse with beautiful illustrations of sheep and a shepherd accompanying each verse. This calendar hung in my office at the church and when the year was over, I could not bring myself to throw the calendar out. It was too lovely.

This past July I used the calendar to be the focus of my "sermon" at the Claremont Nursing Home service. Five members of the chancel choir went with me and between the music provided by the choir and the pictures from the calendar, it was a "sight and sound" worship service. The residents loved the pictures of the sheep which the choir members held up for the gathered residents to see. They also loved all the special music they heard that day.

Now I am again using this calendar, this time with the Sunday School children during the children's sermon time in morning worship.  The children and I together have talked about what a shepherd is and what a shepherd does. We are talking about how God is our shepherd. Last week during the teacher/advisor commissioning we focused on the adults in our church who take on the shepherding role in regards to our children and young adults.

My motivation for teaching the children the 23rd psalm is that I want them not only to learn this beautiful piece of scripture; I want them to know that God, the shepherd, is the bedrock of their faith. In a world where there is such turmoil, such rapid change, such uncertainty, I want the children to know this treasured passage of scripture. I want them to know that God really is their Shepherd who really does guide and protect them; who really does provide for their every need.

I pray that each of you knows this as well. Peace and Blessings.

Greetings!

The story of our church, as we journey on the path of Christian discipleship, is recorded from the rich collection of the individual stories of our members. During our journey together, each of us experiences facets of church that are especially significant to us (aspects of worship, music, education, fellowship, service, times of hardship, etc.)

Would you kindly share your "point of special enthusiasm" regarding your life at PPPC?  Is there one part of your church experience in which you delight?

The Outreach Committee has set out to gather these "points of special enthusiasm" and then share them with our church members in the coming days. Kindly describe your "point of special enthusiasm" on the form online, and place it in the basket in the narthex. Or, you may prefer to email your thoughts to Frank Perkowski at [email protected].

Perhaps you will act right away, so that we may begin our display quickly. That would be great! We hope to receive all responses by Tuesday, October 20.

Thank you for taking a moment to share with us!

This week we will continue with our unit on prayer as we explore praye

Also, don't forget to read the next part of Psalm 23 so we can be prepared for Pastor Linda's time for children!

POINT BEACH PREP

This week we met Miss C, who likes cats.  We learned the sight word "can."  Our sign language word was also "can."  We brainstormed lots of words that start with C.  At our project table we made cupcakes, crowns, crayons, chalk drawings, painted with cars, caterpillars, and the life cycle of a caterpillar.  We listened to a funny book on tape calledCatalina Magdalena.  We also read Corduroy, Chicka Chicka Boom Boom, Cinderquacker, and The Very Hungry Caterpillar.

For Music and Movement this week we crawled, did a crab walk, popped like corn, and pretended to catch catfish, clams, and crabs!  We also sang a special song called The Color Farm and reviewed our colors.

The Point Pleasant Beach Children's Librarian came in on Thursday this week.  We enjoyed her stories and songs!

FEMA NFIP Review Process -
DEADLINE EXTENDED - but not for long!

OCLTRG logo
If you filed a National Flood Insurance (NFIP) claim after Superstorm Sandy, and you were not satisfied with the amount of money you received from your insurance company, you can request a review of your flood insurance claim through FEMA.

If you need help in understanding or navigating the review process, you can get FREE assistance from trusted community advocates who are on hand to provide one on one assistance. If you're interested in learning more about the NFIP review process and what you need to do to opt-in for a review, please call the Ocean County Long Term Recovery Group.
732-569-3484 ext. 24

We strongly encourage policyholders to ask for a review,
as there may be additional funds that are rightfully yours.
MILLIONS of additional insurance awards have already been given
to county residents who went through the review process.

As you may know, the deadline for opting in was extended to October 15.  This provides just a short window to get the word out to the 85% of eligible people who have, so far, not taken advantage of this opportunity.  According to a September 15 article in the Asbury Park Press, the average additional flood insurance payment, following the review process, was $15,994.  This amount can easily make the difference for people who are on the edge in their recovery and should make it worthwhile for almost everyone to drag that paperwork out again.  And according to a second article on September 17, HUD announced that they will not consider any of the first $20,000 a duplication of benefits.  This was one of the big reasons many people were hesitant to go through all the effort of having their claim reviewed: thinking they would go through all the effort just to give it back to the government.  That worry is now not a factor for the average claimant.

Let's make sure that Sandy affected homeowners don't leave money that is theirs on the table. Please spread the word. Time is short!
