Youth Sunday - The Story of Our Lives in Christ
"For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made."
- Psalm 139:13-16
As has been our tradition in years past, the Sunday service on May 3nd will be led by Point Pleasant Presbyterian's Youth. The Youth have chosen "The Story of Our Lives in Christ" to be the theme of this Sunday's message. It reminds us of Paul's words in 1 Timothy 4:12.
| Don't let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity. 1 Timothy 4:12 |
The Youth have decided to share their personal statements with the congregation during the service. Those include what the Church and youth group has meant to them, and - rather telling - how God has been part of their lives.
This service will also include their joyful voices with the music and prayers they have selected as an offering of themselves in the worship of our Holy God. They will also be accompanied by the Children's Dove Choir. Won't you please join us on this very special Sunday?
The Youth remind all of us, both young and old, that we have been "fearfully and wonderfully made" (Psalm 139:14). We have been designed for a purpose, and all of our lives have a story to tell-The Psalmist goes on to say because you've taken the time, dear God, because of the blessings of your good work in me, I will praise you! Youth Sunday is a celebration of all of our lives and how God has been part of it-in both good times and bad. Let us rejoice together with our Youth in this story we have to tell-that we have been designed to know and worship our Lord!

Mother's Day Pancake Breakfast Sponsored by the Youth Connection Mother's Day is a time to honor our mothers, grandmothers, and great-grandmothers for their contribution to our families, our church family, and to our community! The Youth of Point Pleasant Presbyterian is sponsoring a Mother's Day Pancake Breakfast on Sunday, May 10th immediately following service. Come celebrate with us on Mother's Day...but also know you will also be helping someone less fortunate down the road, just like what most Mothers do best!!! The Youth will also be collecting donations on Mother's Day so as to raise monies for their Mission trip to New York City in June of this year. PPPC's Youth Group will be led by the Youth Serve Opportunities Project (YSOP) in hands-on volunteer service to NYC's most vulnerable, which may include preparing and serving meals for New York's homeless. Dad's are welcomed too! Come treat your loved one! (If you would like to help the Youth prepare and serve Mothers on Mother's Day, please contact Carol Bonebrake at (tele) 732-581-1554 or email: carolbonebrake@comcast.net) |
Sunday School Recap
Last week: Bible Verse: Acts 1: 7-11
Last week, we talked about The Ascension of Jesus into Heaven. This was a great way to wrap up our lessons on Easter. Just as Jesus charged His Disciples with spreading the word of God, we discussed ways we can bring God into our lives more and share that with our friends and loved ones.
This week: NO SUNDAY SCHOOL THIS WEEK!!!
This week is Youth Sunday, so we will be remaining in church for the entire service. The service is put on entirely by our Youth Connection, so we will be there to learn from and support our "Church Big Brothers and Sisters"!
See you on Sunday!
Peace and Blessings

News From Point Beach Prep
Every week from January through June, our preschool has a Student of the Week Program. When it is time for a child to be Student of the Week, he/she makes a special "All About Me" poster that is displayed in the classroom. The student takes home "Brown Bear", our resident stuffed animal, and spends the week with him. A parent helps the child journal about the adventures that Brown Bear had during his visit. Often, pictures are included in the journal, and the children are excited to share stories about his trip. Brown Bear has even returned with new handmade or store bought clothes (because apparently he likes to be fashionable!)
Each family is able to pick the date that is convenient for them to come in to the classroom and do something special with the class. We have had such wonderful and unique experiences because each family has a special niche that they bring to us. Among numerous other activities, we have had a fireman with all of his gear and equipment, a Yoga instructor teach us Yoga, a CLOWN come in to juggle, several musicians come in with guitars and microphones, and parents who come in and make healthy fruit smoothies, homemade applesauce, and other delicious recipes with the class. Some parents choose their child's favorite stories to come in and read to us. It is always exciting and different and we welcome the parent involvement.
Recently we had a parent bring in a lemon squeezer and each student was able to participate in making fresh squeezed lemonade. Afterward, we gave the children a "paper penny" to purchase the lemonade from a dramatic play lemonade stand (donated by the Ploskonka family.) The following week a parent who is a scuba diver came in with his gear and taught us about scuba and rescue diving!

The Most Important Bible Translation You've Never Heard Of
You've heard of the Authorized (King James Version), the New International Version, the Revised Standard Version, the New Revised Standard Version and a host of others, but have you ever heard of the Van Dyck Bible?
Didn't think so.
Produced by Presbyterians, it's one of the most important Bible translations of the modern era. Millions of Christians use it. Probably the reason you've never heard of the Van Dyck Bible is that it's in Arabic.
2015 is the 150th anniversary of this translation, coordinated by Cornelius Van Dyck, M.D., a Dutch Reformed missionary to Egypt whose work was supported by the Presbyterian Church through the American Board of Foreign Missions. Before that time, Arabic translations of the scriptures were scarce and of poor quality. Presbyterian mission work in Egypt and other countries of the Middle East continues to this day. Although a few countries, like Iran, have expelled Christian missionaries, most contain significant Christian minorities, including Protestant churches with historic ties to the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
The Evangelical Presbyterian Church in Egypt, our mission partner, is the largest Protestant church in the Middle East, with over 750,000 members. Over 66 new church developments are in progress under that church's auspices. In recent years, the Egyptian government has given land to the EPCE to build 14 new church buildings, and has simplified the building-permit process. This is unprecedented in Egypt since the Arab Islamic conquest of that land in the seventh century.
In these times of turmoil in the Middle East, please pray for the Arabic Christian community that continues to witness to the faith, despite great difficulties and sometimes peril.

Starting to think about Mother's Day shopping? Whether your mom or your spouse, the women in your life have given so much for you. Honor her with a gift that empowers women worldwide.
You might be the person who helps someone like Duda Giltena. She's a mom in Serbia who went to first grade classes three times before giving up. As an adult, she enrolled in CWS-supported adult primary education classes.
"I couldn't wait to start learning, most of all to learn to read and write," she says. "When I learned to read and write, I went out and found a modest job, but it was the first job I ever had in my life."
Thrilled with the new opportunity, she wants to be able to teach and read to her seven children. "I want them to believe that going to school and learning is important," she says.
Do you read to your kids? You can help another parent do just that. This Mother's Day, give more than a simple gift. Give generations of impact by supporting Church World Service.
