JOIN US TONIGHT
MAUNDY THURSDAY
7:00 P.M.
Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church

Join us tonight, Maundy Thursday, for the haunting and beautiful service of Tenebrae, a word meaning "shadows." The service, adapted from an ancient rite of the church, depicts the events that led to Jesus' crucifixion. On Maundy Thursday we remember how the twelve disciples were with Jesus in the upper room for the last time, and how they later beheld with grief and sadness his death upon the cross.

Recalling how our Lord broke the bread and shared the cup, we will celebrate the Sacrament of the Lord's Supper.

The extinguishing of the candles and the gradual dimming of the lights as the several portions of the story are read call to mind the flight of the disciples and the approaching hour of the crucifixion. The moment of total darkness recalls the hours Christ was in the tomb. The return of the light is prophetic of the Easter soon to dawn.

In and amongst the scripture readings, the Chancel Choir will sing a series of anthems centering our attention on these saving events.

Come, be part of the worshiping congregation on this night of high drama and good news of salvation!.

Pastor
