Dear Friends, Long ago, Oscar Wilde defined a cynic as a person "who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing."
That could be a motto for our present age, which is cynical to the extreme. From Wall Street to Washington - and even this place in-between, where we live - it so often seems that money rules. As for values - those moral precepts we hope would be universally recognized - they seem to take a back seat whenever "big money" is driving the car (which, let's face it, is most of the time). Entering the Temple courtyard in Jerusalem, Jesus scopes out the scene. It's clear to him the moneychangers are in charge. Taking "a whip of cords" in his hand, Jesus sets things straight right quick. Maybe he's thinking of the Ten Commandments as he goes on that righteous rampage. We often regard Moses' stone tablets as the classic list of "dos" and "don'ts," but the Ten Commandments are really more about holiness. They challenge ancient Israel - and twenty-first-century America - to put God first, to turn from all other objects of worship, to hallow Sabbath time, to recognize the deep value the Creator places on human life and relationships. The Tenth Commandment - "You shall not covet" - caps off the list. It is, without a doubt, the most blatantly ignored by our advertising-drenched culture of consumption. Covetousness drives our consumer economy - and also drives us down the road to certain disillusionment and unhappiness, if we let it. Some things are, quite simply, not for sale. They could never be for sale. These are also the things that count for most, in this God-created world. God invites us to enjoy them, as free gifts - as long as we promise to share. Come, seek the things that are not for sale, in worship this Sunday!

Sunday School Recap
Last Week: W e started discussing how Jesus and the time of Lent is kind of like a caterpillar turning into a butterfly. We related Jesus to a caterpillar, because much like the caterpillar turns into a butterfly for all to see it beauty, mankind would eventually see the beauty and salvation Jesus would bring to the world. We made caterpillars out of socks and stuffing to remind us of this.
This Week: We will continue our discussion about how Jesus is like a butterfly. We will be talking about the parable Jesus told His disciples about the vine and the branch, and how we need to stay connected to Him as well.
See you on Sunday! Peace and Blessings.
