Weekly News for

Sunday,

December 28, 2014

Dear Friends,

They've waited all their lives for this moment.

Simeon and Anna are two ancient and faithful followers of God who have spent their lives awaiting the Messiah's coming. Simeon in particular has been assured by the Holy Spirit that he will not taste death until he has seen the Messiah with his own eyes.

When Mary and Joseph bring the baby Jesus to the Temple, to present him to the Lord according to ancient law, they encounter these two saints. Each one has the spiritual insight to know this child is the one they have awaited for so long.

"Master," prays Simeon, "now you are dismissing your servant in peace, according to your word; for my eyes have seen your salvation" (Luke 2:29-30).

The story of Simeon and Anna provides a perfect opportunity for reflecting on what Christmas means to us and to the world. Come worship the Christ Child this Sunday, join in the traditional Carol Sing, and see the wonder of Jesus' birth through the eyes of these wise and gifted people of faith.

The good news of Christmas is not over. It's only just begun!

Pastor Carl

Thanks to Christmas Dinner Helpers

Thanks with kid
A big THANK YOU to all who stepped in, helping prepare for, serve or clean up after the Christmas Dinner.

We served well over 120 guests with delicious food provided by Joe Leone's, Mueller's Bakery and other generous people. Thanks, too, to those who provided home-baked cookies.

New Offering Envelopes

envelopes
2015 offering envelope boxes may be picked up in the Narthex starting on Christmas Eve. If you cannot find your envelopes, please write your name on the pad provided.

Please use only 2015 envelopes beginning on Sunday, January 4th. (Please note: your assigned envelope number may have changed.)

You can also call the church's Financial Secretary, Donna Ferry, in the church office with any questions.

Checks dated December 31st or earlier will be credited to the 2014 year. Please avoid putting 2014 donations in 2015 envelopes. (If you don't have a 2014 envelope, you can use a generic pew envelope and write "2014 giving" on it.) Thank you!
Expanded Handicapped Parking on Sundays

We've upgraded our handicapped parking! Counting the church lot and the handicapped parking place on Forman Avenue, there are now a total of 6 handicapped parking places available for Sunday mornings. These parking places are posted as follows:

3  in the lot, Sundays only
2  in the lot, 7 days a week
1  on Forman Avenue, 7 days a week

The only one of these 6 parking places enforced by the police department - and therefore subject to ticketing - is the one on the street. Please do exercise consideration for those with mobility problems, however, and keep the handicapped places open for those who most need them. Many thanks!

Covenant Bible Study to Begin Again

The Covenant Bible Study second unit, "Living the Covenant," will begin again on the week of January 26.  There will once again be two separate groups, meeting weekly:
Mondays, 10:00-11:30 am, led by Rev. Linda Chase
Wednesdays at 7:00-8:30 pm, led by Rev. Dr. Carl Wilton

COVENANT is an in-depth group Bible study that centers around our relationships with God, with each other and with the world. It emphasizes the biblical concept of covenant - the enduring commitment between God and people - as a unifying pattern throughout the entire Bible.  This is a learning experience where scripture meets everyday experience - not only within the church, but in every area of our lives.

If you're interested in joining one of these groups, please call or email the church office!  Books are available in the office for $20.   Did you get a new tablet for Christmas?  The best rate of all is available to iPad users. Search for "Covenant Bible Study" is also available from the  iTunes Store, for $9.99 - half the price of the printed version.

You can learn more about the program at the CovenantBibleStudy.com website.
