Sunday School starts
This Sunday

Baptism Window Dear Friends,

This Sunday we have the joy of baptizing a young child into the Body of Christ. Alexa Marie, daughter of Jennifer and Alan, will become the newest member of PPPC.

Baptism is a sacrament which only happens once and yet we spend the rest of our lives living out the promises made at our own baptism. Baptism inaugurates a new pattern of life in which we hopefully walk all the days of our lives.   Not only will we welcome Alexa into our family of faith, we also promise before God to guide and nurture her by word and deed, and with love and prayer encourage her to know and follow Christ.  That is a big undertaking and it is only by relying on God's grace and guidance and one another as a faith community that we are able to do this.

Come join us this Sunday to worship God and to celebrate not only the baptism of Alexa Marie, but our own baptism as well.

Peace and Blessings,
 Pastor Linda

News and Notes
HELP US WELCOME OUR CHURCH'S GUESTS - Our church is happy to welcome guests and to let them know they are special to us! The Bread Team hangs a loaf of bread (either homemade or storebought) and a brochure about our church on the visitor's front door. What a welcome surprise to find a caring gift at one's door! If you would like to become a part of this committee and "spread the word" by delivering bread on a rotating basis, please contact either the church office or Karen Norby at 732-295-8174.

xmas-tree-icon.gif CHRISTMAS DINNER COORDINATOR NEEDED - We are in need of someone to coordinate the Christmas Dinner on Christmas Day.  We have a lot of people who volunteer on Christmas Day but we are in need of someone to coordinate the logistics of the day.  Jacque Thornton will arrange for the food to be ordered ahead of time.  For questions or more information please speak with Jacque or with the Rev. Linda Chase.

USHERS NEEDED - Each Sunday our ushers quietly blend into our service as quiet guides and servers. We are in need of a  few more ushers to fill out our many teams.  If this kind of quiet serving is something that appeals to you, please contact Scott Smith at 732-840-0279.

SEAFOOD FESTIVAL - This Saturday, September 20, is Point Pleasant Beach's annual Festival of the Sea. This has no effect on our worship service the next day - UNLESS there is bad weather on Saturday, AND the town decides to postpone the Festival to its rain date, which is Sunday. The weather forecasts look pretty good, but in the unlikely event of a postponed Seafood Festival (with all the difficulties finding parking places that entails), please plan accordingly.
Inquirers Group

An Inquirers Group, for those exploring membership in the church, will take place on Sunday, October 5, 2014. We will begin at the Communion Brunch following the service that Sunday.  We will continue until 2:30 p.m. Child care can be made available upon prior request. New members will be received in worship on October 19.

Please call the Church Office to sign up, or to find out more!

Nursery Class News
astronaut-floating.jpg
Wow, week 2 of Nursery already!  Everyone is getting settled into their new routines.  We spent our first week getting to know each other and the different parts of the classroom.  Every morning we come together and discuss the weather, what day it is, and our letter of the week.  We also salute the flag and assign a daily job to each student.  The children are doing a great job listening and learning.

Some of our activities were apple printing, marching like ants, blasting into space like astronauts, flying paper airplanes, playing in our dramatic play airplane, and making apple trees and anthills.  We also celebrated Olivia's birthday!
Pre-K Class News
fruit-basket.jpg

This week we met our letter doll Miss A.  She has allergies and sneezes "a-a-a-choo!"  We learned the different sounds A makes and what it looks like as a capital and lower-case letter. We wrote the letter A with pencils, chalk and markers.  We read many stories such as Ten Apples Up On Top, Amazing Apples, Ant in Her Pants, The Lady with the Alligator Purse and Johnny Appleseed. We talked about who the author and the illustrator of the stories were.  At our project table we made apple stamps, fingerprint ants, made an apple project and labeled each part of the apple, alligator As and a painter's tape reveal A.  We were busy!

At snack time we sampled red, yellow, and green apples to see which one was our favorite.  We then made an apple graph to determine which color more students liked.  What is your guess?  Check out our graph hanging in the hallway to see if you are right!

We also made our very own applesauce with our apples.  Everyone helped and was very proud of their homemade treat.

We showed the class our sight-word tree and made our first leaf the word "a." Yes, it is a letter and a word!

We talked about what sign language is and why we use it.  This week the children learned "a" and "amazing."  What an amazing week it was!

See you next week with letter doll Mr. B!

                  SEEKING A CHURCH TREASURER

The Session's Finance Team has rewritten the job description for PPPC's volunteer Church Treasurer position.

This key position in the life of the church has been completely redesigned, so as to require a visit to the church office just one or two times per week, for about 3-5 hours total. Got some financial savvy? Got basic computer skills? Want to help your church's many ministries have the strong support they deserve?

If so, please give a call to the church office. We're eager to tell you more!

IHN Needs EXTRA-LONG Twin Sheets

Do you have any good-condition, EXTRA-LONG twin sheets you could donate to the church, for use by our Interfaith Hospitality Network guests?

These are NOT regular-sized twin sheets. They are the extra-long size, commonly used in college dormitories. This is the size that fits our Volunteer Village bunks.

Maybe you have some in your attic, left over from the time when you, or a son or daughter, went to college?

Hold the Date: CROP Walk

11% of the world's population does not have access to clean water.  That's 800 million people.

We can't help them all, but a successful CROP Hunger Walk can help develop two or three wells, making clean water available to at least some of those in need.

Our walk is just four weeks away, on:

Sunday, October 19th

Please plan to walk with us, or to sponsor a walker. Thank you!
