Dear Friends,
If you've ever interviewed for a job, you know the routine. Submit a resume, listing your education, skills and work history. It's the job of the potential employer to read that resume and try to figure out if you're qualified for the position. If you are, you may get invited for an interview.
This Sunday in worship, we celebrate Pentecost, the birthday of the church. We remember how, on that special day, the Holy Spirit fell upon the Apostles. Were they qualified for the work they were about to undertake - lighting a gospel fire that, in a few generations, would spread throughout their entire world and even to parts unknown?
In a word, no. They weren't qualified. These were ordinary folks, like you and me. They were way out of their league.
But something happened to these unqualified people on Pentecost. God qualified them. The Holy Spirit took the lives they had so hesitantly offered up, transforming them into powerful witnesses to the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
This Sunday, we'll stand with four young people as they confirm the vows their parents made at their baptism and become adult members of the church. We'll also pray for and lay hands on several other members, who have accepted God's call, through the voice of the congregation, to be ordained and/or installed as deacons and elders, or to serve on the Endowment and Emergency Fund Trustees. We'll also present the Griggs Educational Award and join together in healing prayer during the closing hymn.
On Sundays, it's always about the Holy Spirit. On no day is this more clearly evident than on the Day of Pentecost.
Join us!
Pastor Carl

What's New In Glory to God?
The new Glory to God Presbyterian hymnal is now in our pews! We'll be dedicating the new hymnals in a special celebration in our regular worship service on Sunday, June 29th. This hymnal - the best-selling in Presbyterian history - includes all the familiar hymns we're used to singing, but offers a whole range of new hymns as well. Each week in this space, we'll share a video highlighting one of the great new songs from Glory to God. This week's selection is "How Can I Keep from Singing?" Click on the image below to have a listen!

Old Hymnals Being Offered Back to Donors Did you donate a copy (or copies) of the 1990 Presbyterian Hymnal in honor or memory of a loved one? Would you like to have that book (or books) back, as a keepsake?
If so, please stop by the North Hall this Sunday or next, and find the book(s) you'd like to have. The volumes with donor bookplates are lined up in alphabetical order on tables.
The Lakehurst Presby- terian Church has expressed interest in having our leftover Presbyterian Hymnals, and the Session does plan to donate a number of copies to them. We have more hymnals than they can use, though, so if anyone would like to have a copy of the old hymnal - whether a donated volume or simply one of the others that are left over - please feel free to stop by and pick one up. If you can't get over to the church in the next couple of weeks, please phone or email the church office and we'll gladly set one aside for you. |
These Days, Featuring Dr. Wilton The newest edition of These Days, the daily devotional booklet, is now available in the Narthex or in the Church office for $3. This edition, covering the months of July, August and September, features several daily meditations written by Pastor Carl Wilton.
You can find his contributions at both the beginning and the end of the three-month period covered by the booklet.

Wow! It is hard to believe the school year is over. We have had another great year here at Point Beach Prep! Our students have learned so much! Over the year, our class built their knowledge of letters and letter sounds by meeting all of our letter dolls from A-Z. They learned letter recognition and brainstormed words that started with each letter. They learned the sign language for each alphabet letter, and a sign language word. They practiced writing their letters with pencil power. We saw emergent writing when mock letters became stories! They enjoyed bringing in a Show and Tell item weekly for the different letters. Every week we also learned a new word on our sight word tree.
The children learned their numbers and colors. They sang and danced to many great songs. We read SO many interesting books, and literacy was emerging! Our class explored with squishy shaving cream, played with many different sand colors in our sand table, and even had rice in our sensory table. They built a volcano and watched it erupt, and explored properties of magnets. Our artists used their creativity at creation station by painting at the easel, and making whatever they could imagine with markers, crayons, colored pencils, glue, scissors, etc. At our small group project table they made many projects related to our letters and themes. Imaginations were developed in our dramatic play areas. Through the staging of a farm, train station, construction site, play school, horse barn, grocery store, the U.S. Post Office, and an under the sea area complete with a boat, the children built thinking skills and developed social, emotional and language skills!
Each child enjoyed being Student of the Week. They took Brown Bear home with them and wrote about their adventures. Our friends all loved having their special person come in with them during their week to read, play guitar, teach yoga, teach lessons on the 5 senses, learn all about Scotland, make cool crafts such as Gak, handprint tulip bags, Olaf, and clothespin ladybugs, make homemade applesauce, make banana smoothies, eat something FROZEN, eat fresh peas, have a lobster toss, bring a piņata, and we even had an animal ambassador and a fireman with all of his gear! Wow!
Every student eagerly anticipated being given a special job daily. They learned responsibility by taking turns being the line leader, caboose, project helper, outdoor helper, bell ringer, snack counter, calendar helper, doing days of the week, weather, attendance, turning on/off the lights, holding the flag, being the librarian and the center checker.
Outside, we played Duck Duck Goose, Farmer in the Dell, Simon Says, many games with the parachute, had zig-zag races, drew with chalk, played on a seesaw, rode tricycles, cars, scooters, and even rode a fire truck!
We loved having the Point Pleasant Beach Children's Librarian come in every month to read stories, sing songs, use our felt board, and do other fun things with us. We also enjoyed having Art Teacher Karen Norby come in several times to do lessons on shapes, line, and texture. We had 2 different dentists come in to teach us good oral hygiene and even had a visit from the Tooth Fairy!
We had many special events such as our Halloween Parade, trip to St. Gregory's Pantry, Thanksgiving Show, Christmas Sing-a-long, Valentine's parties, Mother's Day Tea, and game days.
We have all had so much fun, it is hard to believe we were learning the whole time! (Shhh!!!) Thank you for a wonderful year. We wish our graduating students best of luck in kindergarten, we will miss you dearly! We are looking forward to seeing all of our returning students in September! Have a safe and happy summer!
