Friends, Imagine a world with no cars, no buses, no airplanes. "Rapid transit" means riding a horse or a donkey. Most travelers in that world don't have such deluxe transportation. They just walk. When your journey is measured by the slow, deliberate pace of one foot placed after the other, you notice things. Trees, houses, they laughter of children as they play - they're all part of the journey. You hardly need to "stop and smell the flowers" because their aroma wafts over to you anyway. It's strange that Cleopas and his friend failed to notice anything significant about their fellow-traveler, the stranger who overtook them as they walked. The three exchanged small talk. In time, they moved on to big talk, as the two friends shared their bewilderment and grief at the loss of Jesus, their beloved teacher. Funny how Cleopas and his companion never noticed the man's hands and feet. If they had, they would have marveled how a man with such grievous wounds had been walking faster than they, without even a limp. Those two disciples were so lost in the past, they were barely living in the present. As for future hope, it was in short supply. Until they sat down to dinner, and he broke the bread. His sleeves fell back. They saw the scars. And hope lit their faces like the dawning of the day. This Sunday, we break bread together. Will we see, as they did? Pastor Carl

CHURCH PHOTOGRAPHER GREG HALL - Thank you to Greg who has volunteered to be our Church photographer. Please contact Greg to have him photograph your events. Greg can be reached at 848-469-0306 or at thehall@gmail.com. Please give him ample advance notice of all events.
WONDERFUL, WONDERFUL! - Wonderful and uplifting are only a few of the words I can think of to describe the music our chancel choir provided for our Holy Week and Easter services. The pieces the choir sang for the Maundy Thursday and Good Friday services underscored the meaning of the words from scripture so that they really came alive. Thank you so much to Bill Shoppell, Sara Hoey and all the choir members who put in so many hours of rehearsing and committing their time to the services themselves. We are so blessed to have all of you. You are all gems! Blessings, Linda
SUMMER BOOK STUDY - This Summer, Linda Chase will be doing a study on a book called, The Courage to Grow Old written by The Rev. Barbara Crafton. Ms. Crafton is an Episcopal priest of 33 years who is a wonderful teacher, writer, preacher and retreat leader. Linda has known her for several years and has done workshops and retreats with her. This is her newest book about which she says, "I think growing older is both funny and sad, but mostly it just makes me grateful to be alive and able to reflect....I hate it when people are ashamed of being old. We should be proud!" If you would like to be part of a class using this book, please let Linda know. The cost of the book is $10. Day and time to be determined depending on response.
A SERVICE OF REMEMBRANCE for Donald Wacha, Arlene Wacha's father and Rich Bavier's father-in-law, will be held on Saturday, May 10, Saturday, at 11 a.m. at the Church. A luncheon will follow in the CE Annex. The celebration of life will continue at Arlene & Rich's home, 1 Deer Path, Brick, NJ. For more details please call 732-458-9598.

You may already know that we give kits and blankets whose total value was nearly 1.5 milliion dollars to Hurricane Sandy victims. We continue to support the rebuilding effort and are coordinating many Disaster Preparedness Training Programs. I hope that your group has recovered from that terrible storm. God Bless you! Peace."
Thanks to everyone who contributes to our Kit Program each year. This note shows that we do make a difference in helping others in the World.

Resources, Resources, Resources! Genesis Center
Do you teach a class? Chair an action team? Lead a group? If so, you need RESOURCES!
Here's a description of the services the Genesis Center provides: The Genesis Center is not just a library or a resource center. Instead we are a service aimed at connecting churches and their members to resources and education that fit both their individual needs and budgets.
We currently have both an online website accessible from any computer, tablet, or phone, and a physical resource library located in the lower level of Hope Presbyterian Church in Lakewood, NJ.
The Genesis Center website is located at www.genesiscenternow.com. It can be accessed via computer, tablet, or mobile phone (with some adjustments to formatting). The Genesis Center website aims to highlight quality resources from around the internet including low-cost and free resources. This includes crafts, curriculum, personal blogs, information, opinions, devotionals, videos, as well as emailed newsletters once a month and regular updates to its users. We also offer publishing for users who submit their original works to The Genesis Center via email or as a part of our quarterly themed submission periods. If a submitted work is accepted, The Genesis Center will publish it as a free electronic download on our website. |
