Friends,

This past Tuesday was Earth Day. It's a day to remind ourselves, each year, of the importance of stewardship of the earth.

With evidence of climate change becoming ever more obvious, the Earth Day message is becoming even more relevant. Truly, it's got to become more than a once-a-year affair.

This Sunday in worship, our seminary assistant Sue Smith will bring a special Earth Day message, entitled "Choices."

This is also Sue's last Sunday with us (although she'll be stopping by the Volunteer Village the first week in May, to be of assistance to this week's Sandy recovery work team from Storm Lake, Iowa). Her ministry in our midst, and especially her passion for social ministry, has been much valued. Come join us, and express your appreciation to her personally!
Pastor Carl

Administrative Professionals Day

April 23 was Administrative Professionals Day. A day that gives "bosses" an opportunity to thank those who help them keep things running on a daily basis!  Carl, Linda and the Session would like to take this opportunity to thank our Church Secretary Kim Gaydos and Financial Secretary Donna Ferry, for all their hard work both in front of and behind the scenes. Although Nancy Stout is technically our volunteer Church Treasurer, she has done work outside that label on many occasions and we feel it's important to honor her as well.

Their duties are multi-faceted, and their skills and knowledge allow them to accomplish any task whether it be big or small, with an efficiency that makes it look easy to the rest of us! We are grateful for their hard work and bright smiles and if you ask them something they don't know, they will guide you to the correct source. We also thank them for the many assignments they have all taken on at times that have gone above and beyond their job descriptions.

Flowers have been sent to them as a reminder of our appreciation, but don't hesitate to congratulate them on a job well done!

What's New In Glory to God?
The new Glory to God Presbyterian hymnal we'll introduce later this spring includes all the familiar hymns we're used to singing, but offers a whole range of new hymns as well. Each week in this space, we'll share a video highlighting one of the great new songs from Glory to God. This week's selection is "I Was There to Hear Your Borning Cry." Click on the image below to have a listen!

Would You Like To GO GREEN?

Would you prefer to receive your quarterly giving statement electronically, rather than by picking it up at church, or receiving it in the mail? We'd rather send it to you by email, and save both paper and the cost of a first-class stamp.

If you would like to "go green" and join the growing ranks of church members and friends who are receiving electronic statements, please contact Financial Secretary Donna Ferry, either by email or by phoning (732) 899-0587.

We love getting your news articles for our weekly e-newsletter - keep 'em coming!

Please understand, though, that from now on we're only going to run identical articles about upcoming events if the event is coming up in TWO WEEKS or less. If you'd like to send a brief "hold the date" sort of announcement earlier, we  can find room for that - but we're aware that, when the same article runs for weeks and weeks, it doesn't get read after the first appearance or two - and, more than that, the articles around it don't get read, either.

So.... please help us KEEP IT FRESH, by understanding when we limit the run for coming-events articles to two weeks. Thanks!
Scholarships for Christian Service

DID YOU KNOW Point Pleasant Presbyterian has a scholarship fund for members attending higher-education institutions in order to prepare for a Christian vocation?

These funds may be used for those attending seminary, as well as for other professional degree programs to prepare for service to the church.

We're grateful to those members who have contributed the funds - now invested in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) Foundation - to make this program possible.

For more information, please speak to one of the pastors.

      SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS

 Sunday School News

Last week, we learned about the story of Jesus' resurrection. We discussed how the change Jesus goes through is like a butterfly.  The butterfly starts as an egg and goes through different stages to become a butterfly, just like Jesus went through different events.  In Sunday School we had fun making beautiful stained glass tissue paper eggs and creating a mural on what Easter means to us.

This week we are learning about the days after Jesus' resurrection and the time he spent with the disciples on the walk to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-35).  On this walk two disciples are discussing the events of the days before, when they meet a man.  The man asks what they are talking about. As they tell the man what they are discussing they question if Jesus was the true messiah and if the stories were true.

The man reminds them of the scriptures and how it was predicted that this would happen.  They spend the whole day with the man and eventually invite him to dinner.  When the man blessed the food they realize the man is Jesus. I believe this passage is like the poem "Footprints in the Sand" by Mary Stevenson.  In this poem the write reminds us that Jesus is always with us.  At Sunday school today we will read the story and have fun playing games making crafts that reinforce the idea that Jesus is always with us.

Thank you to everyone who attended the Sunday school's Egg Hunt.  I think the children had a blast looking for eggs.  It was so nice to see our families laughing and enjoying Easter Sunday together.

Nursery School Red Building

This week we met Mr. Z!  We cannot believe we have learned all the letters of the alphabet.  The children keep telling us how smart they all are!

Our American Sign Language word was zipper and we learned to sign the letter Z.  At our project table we made zebras and zoo animals. We also started some special projects for our upcoming Mother's Day Tea.  We acted like zoo animals and zebras, pretended to zip our coats, had zigzag races, and we were zany!

Mason was our Pre-K Student of the Week.  His Mommy came in on Wednesday and made a ladybug craft with the class.  She also brought in delicious banana muffins.  Lyla was our Nursery Student of the Week.  Her Mommy came in and read 3 special stories with the class.  We are thankful for our parents' participation in our classes!

On Tuesday and Wednesday we talked about Earth Day.  We discussed many ways we could help to protect our planet.  We read Michael Recycle and even made a robot out of items we reused from our dramatic play Grocery Store.

The children were so excited to see TWO new dramatic play areas.  We introduced a Post Office AND a Play School.  We saw lots of letters being written and mail being delivered.  Each of the children took turns being the teacher and sitting at the desks at our play school.  They were very busy!

On Thursday, the Point Pleasant Beach Children's Librarian came in to read stories and sing songs with both classes.  This Monday, a Soccer Shots coach will be coming to Point Beach Prep to teach all the children soccer!

See you next week with numbers 1 and 2!
