I'm happy to say... "I'm back!" My doctor cleared me to go off disability and return to work as of this past Monday, so I've been back on the job since then, doing my best to get caught up.
That's going to take some time, because I've been out of the pulpit since late October. I still have a way to go in restoring my stamina and breathing more easily. I've been working on that by going to the gym daily, continuing the reconditioning process started when I was in in physical therapy. I need to pace myself for a while longer yet.
The medical news is that there is no longer any sign of the pulmonary embolisms that had developed in both lungs. The blood clot in my right leg - the likely source of the embolisms - is still there, but is being controlled with anticoagulant ("blood-thinner") medication. The abdominal hematoma (internal bleeding) that caused such a crisis when I was first put on blood-thinners in the hospital has cleared up. My lab tests show that my kidneys are back to 98% functioning (after two episodes of kidney failure, resulting from the fact that my body no longer tolerates the IV contrast fluid sometimes administered along with CT scans).
I'm grateful that everyone at PPPC has been so wonderfully patient and understanding with this protracted recovery, resulting from this "perfect storm" of medical complications. I still need to take it easy for a while longer yet, but I'm definitely on the mend. See you in church! Carl

Interfaith Hospitality Network Arrives this Sunday
Families in the IHN program will be arriving here on this Sunday, March 30. We are in need of a few more volunteers to help. Please speak with Dorothy Tolley (732-892-9306) or Terri Williams and let them know how you can help.
Our church has been a host church for IHN for many years. We are reminded in the book of Galatians to "not grow weary of doing good." Thank you to everyone who has volunteered over the years.

WE HAVE A "PR" PERSON - Pat Shoppell has offered to be the Public Relations Coordinator for the church. There are so many wonderful things going on in our church that we need to be sharing with the larger community. With that in mind, please submit all photos and/or write ups on any future and past events held at the church. Pat will make sure it gets into the local newspaper. Please be mindful of deadlines. We want current information going out to the press. Pat can be reached at billpat2@optonline.net We need to be proactive about letting our light shine.
WEB SITE EDITOR - Pat Shoppell will be working mainly with print media (newspaper press releases). We could also use someone who is willing to take on the updating of the church's website. Revisions are done using the Wordpress online web-editing tool, which is intuitively designed and fairly easy to use, after some basic training. Do you have a nose for news and an eye for good web design? Would you like to find out more? Please contact the church office. HOLY WEEK BULLETIN PREPARATION - Volunteers are needed on Wednesday, April 16 to help fold bulletins for the Holy Week Services, We will meet in the Fellowship room beginning at 1:30 p.m. As always, thank you for your continual help. ATTENTION HIGH SCHOOL SENIORS - Applications are now being accepted for the Griggs Scholarship. Please provide a typed - written essay of your church, community and school activities. All graduating high school seniors seeking further study are eligible to apply. All applications are due Sunday, May 11th, 2014. If you have any further questions, please call the Church office. Over the last 30 years Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church has been awarding the Virginia Griggs Scholarship Award as a way to recognize a high school senior whose character and service to the church and community are to be commended. The Equipping Team welcomes any additional gifts or memorials be made to this fund. Checks can be made payable to the Church with "Griggs Scholarship" marked on the memo line.

Look for this in Upcoming Weeks!
When Superstorm Sandy hit in the fall of 2012 it not only devastated much of the shore, but it sidelined goals and ambitions of many people, businesses and churches in our area. One of those goals our church was looking at, was to add an Alternative Worship Service with more contemporary components, to be held on a different day then our current service. This way we would not be taking anything away from those who enjoy our traditional Sunday service, while adding something that has been frequently asked about over recent years. It is time to reassess and move forward with the interest that was expressed back in 2012.
We are also as promised, asking for some preliminary feedback from the decision last year to have one worship serviceon Sunday instead of two. We are hoping that after trying it for several months you may have some initial views or thoughts and will offer them to session.
In a few weeks you will have the opportunity to comment with a combined survey on both topics. This will help session decide which direction, you the congregants want to see for the future of our church. Please keep in mind that if we cannot garner enough support and a physical willingness to help make an Alternative Worship Service happen, then we will no longer be able to attempt this service. Now is the time to express your views on both these subjects, so whether you are happy, unhappy, or somewhere in the middle, in regards to either of them, please take a few minutes to fill out the upcoming survey so we have current information for future decisions.
