DAYLIGHT SAVING TIME BEGINS THIS WEEKEND

Dear Friends,
What a wonderful way we began Lent together with our traditional Soup Supper and Communion worship service on Ash Wednesday. As usual, there was a plethora of delicious soups. Too bad I have not figured out a way to have a taste of them all. There were a variety of breads on each table for eating with the supper and for sharing during communion as well. Someone described the service as homey, as well as inspirational. It reminded me of how I like to think of Jesus and his followers sitting down for a meal - talking over their day and sharing their stories of faith in the events that had happened to them.
What I especially appreciated where the big loaves of bread on the tables; loaves eaten in Communion. There were long loaves, round ones, loaves with seeds on top, crusty loaves - again, I wished I could have sampled all of them. Gone were the little cubes of white bread with all the crusts trimmed off and cut into look alike neat squares. We each had an opportunity to grab a hold of a big hunk of bread and rip it off, if we were brave enough. Jesus said, "I am the bread of life." So why wouldn't we want as much of that bread as we can get? After all there was and is plenty for all. "I am the bread of life. All who come to me will never hunger and all who believe in me will never thirst."
I hope to see you in church this Sunday, the first Sunday in Lent.
Peace and Blessings,
Linda

Wear your PDA Shirt this Sunday
This Sunday, March 9, the first Sunday in Lent, is "Wear your blue PDA t-shirt to church Sunday." When you see someone in a blue PDA shirt this Sunday, you will know they are a volunteer who has given their time to help someone in need after a crisis or disaster. We are fortunate to have quite a few people in our congregation who have blue shirts.
Since 1949, Presbyterians have joined with millions of other Christians through One Great Hour of Sharing to share God's love with our neighbors-in-need around the world. Your generous gifts to this Special Offering help provide relief those affected by natural disasters, provide food to the hungry, and assist in helping to empower the poor and oppressed. When you support our faithful volunteer efforts, you help support programs like Presbyterian Disaster Assistance.
As you have seen firsthand by our PDA Volunteer Village, your help ensures our sisters and brothers receive support following a disaster, long after the media has moved on.
You will have the opportunity to give to One Great Hour of Sharing on Palm Sunday, April 13, 2014. For this Sunday we ask that you wear your blue shirt to Church. If you see someone wearing a blue shirt please encourage them and pray for them this week.

The Lent 2014 daily calendar, from the Environmental Ministries and Enough for Everyone programs of the Presbyterian Hunger Program, is now available online and in the Narthex.
Known in past years as "Tread Lightly for Lent," this daily calendar is a quick and easy way to stay mindful of all God's creation throughout the season of Lent. As we slow down, reflect, take on spiritual disciplines, and give up distractions during the season of Lent, what parts of God's creation call our attention, remind us of God, or invite us to become more deeply the people God has created us to be? In this calendar are reflection questions, readings, facts, stories, and suggested actions to draw you more deeply into relationship with God and all God's creation, as you make your way through Lent.

First, I want to say congratulations to all of you who came to the Ash Wednesday Service it was great to see so many kids and families there. The service was very nice and the soups were delicious. Also to the 12 children who came, great job on starting your Lent Journey, you all have 15pts. Keep up the great work!
Last week, in Sunday School we learned the story of The Good Samaritan. This is one of my favorite stories from the Bible. It teaches us to love thy neighbor. We had a great time discussing the story, doing some fun crafts and closing with the Lord's Prayer. Be sure to discuss with your child how they can be a Good Samaritan. This week, we are going to continue our contest and review what Lent is. We will also be introducing the story of Zacchaeus (Luke 19:1-10) and learning a fun song that will help the children remember the story. Upcoming Events Lent Contest March 5-April 20, 2014 Youth Service March 30 One Great Hour of Sharing - Turn Fish in on Palm Sunday April 13, 2014 Have a great week! Sarah Morrison [email protected]

Sunday School Dismissal
Sunday School is from 10:20 to 11:20. We meet every week in the Christian Education Building after the Time for Children. Please pick your chi
ld up at 11:20. It is important that the children stay for the whole time, because if they are picked up early they are losing valuable learning time. Thank you so much for your support and understanding.

Our summer mission trip is coming.
This year, pending Session approval, we will be joining forces with Youth Service Opportunity Project, a service based youth oriented organization. The opening page of their website says it all...
The Youth Service Opportunities Project (YSOP) is an IRS 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in New York City by Quakers in 1983. In April of 2003, YSOP expanded to Washington, DC.
YSOP is committed to helping young people become part of the solution to societal problems by showing them how even their smallest actions can make a difference in the lives of others. While YSOP was created for young people, we welcome people of all ages to YSOP.
YSOP is a nationally recognized leader in providing high-quality volunteer service experiences. YSOP has been a pioneer in the field of service-learning, leading thousands of young people and adults in programs to encourage community participation and engaged citizenship through direct service to homeless and hungry people.
Last year (2012-2013) 4,021 participants served more than 463,600 hungry and homeless men, women and children in New York City, Washington, DC and Philadelphia. YSOP hosts middle school and high school groups, college students, faith-based groups serving on mission trips and community organizations.
We will be looking to take youth and adults to Washington D.C. from July 6th - 10th. If you or someone you know might be interested in going, please attend our first meeting on Sunday, March 9 right after church in the CE Annex.

This Week in Point Beach Prep
We celebrated Dr. Seuss' s birthday this week with a visit from The Cat in the Hat! Pedaling tricycles is a great way for our students to use their gross motor skills while having fun on our playground. As everyone does their Spring cleaning, please think of us if your family has outgrown their tricycles or if you know someone who is looking to donate theirs. Thank you!
