Dear Friends,
This coming Wednesday, March 5, is Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent. We begin this season of 40 days looking to Easter with a service of worship in the Church Annex. Our evening will start at 6:00 p.m. with a simple meal of homemade soups and breads. If you plan to bring a pot of soup or a loaf of bread, please sign up on the sheet under the soup pot in the Sanctuary.
Following supper we will celebrate Communion as the gathered community of faith. For those who choose, we will also impose ashes on individual foreheads, as a sign of repentance.
In lieu of me preaching a sermon this year, I am asking that you be willing to share briefly how you experience Jesus at working in your life and the life of our Church in the midst of the messiness of the world in which we live. Just as Jesus was present with this disciples following his resurrection, so too he is present with us. It is strengthening and an uplifting experience to hear others share their faith stories for it unites us as the body of Christ.
I pray that we all will begin our Lenten journey with this service. come a s family or solo. Come with children, grand children, and the neighbor's children. Just come!
Peace and Blessings,
Linda

CHECK FOR SNOW CANCELLATIONS - In case of snow, please watch for an email or the voice mail message about worship service times (732-899-0587) for the latest information about cancellations of church activities.
WOMEN'S BEAN PROJECT - The Judith-Rachel circle will continue selling bean soup mixes from the Women's Bean Project each Sunday. The Women's Bean project employs chronically impoverished and unemployed women through a transitional job in gourmet food and handcrafted jewelry manufacturing so they are able to receive immediate income. These soup mixes were quite popular at the Mission Fair. The Judith-Rachel circle is happy to continue offering them. Look for them this Sunday.
BAPTISMS - Baptisms will take place on Sunday, March 23 at the 10:00 am worship service. Ordinarily, at least one parent must be a member of PPPC. For more information, please call the Church Office. |
A More Meaningful Lent Lent, the period of 40 days leading up to Palm Sunday and Easter, is to be a time of preparation, reflection and renewal. I invite you to begin your Lenten journey by joining with others from the church for the annual Ash Wednesday Soup Supper and Service.
We will gather on Wednesday, March 5 in the CE Annex with a soup supper at 6:00 p.m. Please plan to bring a pot of soup or a loaf of unsliced bread to share. If needed, runners will bring your soup upstairs to the annex before you park. Sign-up sheets for soup donations are located by the Soup Pot on top of the Piano in the Sanctuary; or send an e-mail to Kim in the church office. Please join us as we enter the 40 days of Lent together. Come together as a family; bring your friends. |
To Register please provide your Name, Contact Number and email address along with $15 to the Church office by March 16. Please make checks payable to PW with "retreat" in the memo line. |

Last week the Sunday School led the church service at Claremont Nursing Home. It was a great experience. The children and the teachers read various parts of the service. We had fun singing children's traditional Bible songs and talking with the residents. My favorite part of this service was the time after when we got to talk to the residents and hear about their lives. Thank you so much to Tricia Stouffers, Chris Nelson, Kerry Jones, Ryan Wittman, The Cox Family, The Sellman Family and Vivian Reid for volunteering your time to go to lead this service for the residents.

This week we will be learning the story of the Good Samaritan. What is a Samaritan? How can we be good Samaritans? Be sure to review this story and ways your child can be a Good Samaritan. We will also be starting our One Great Hour of Sharing Activity. Below is a list of upcoming events for the Sunday school.
Upcoming EventsMarch Madness Lent ContestI challenge all Sunday School children to make a commitment to attending church for all of the 7 Lent Services. All children who complete this will receive a prize and special recognition. A second place prize for attending 5 of the 7 will also be given.

On April 4th all children are invited to come to the church for pizza, craft, games and FUN! Parents do not have to stay for this event, but can stay and help if they prefer.

Our summer mission trip is coming.
This year, pending Session approval, we will be joining forces with Youth Service Opportunity Project, a service based youth oriented organization. The opening page of their website says it all...
The Youth Service Opportunities Project (YSOP) is an IRS 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in New York City by Quakers in 1983. In April of 2003, YSOP expanded to Washington, DC.
YSOP is committed to helping young people become part of the solution to societal problems by showing them how even their smallest actions can make a difference in the lives of others. While YSOP was created for young people, we welcome people of all ages to YSOP.
YSOP is a nationally recognized leader in providing high-quality volunteer service experiences. YSOP has been a pioneer in the field of service-learning, leading thousands of young people and adults in programs to encourage community participation and engaged citizenship through direct service to homeless and hungry people.
Last year (2012-2013) 4,021 participants served more than 463,600 hungry and homeless men, women and children in New York City, Washington, DC and Philadelphia. YSOP hosts middle school and high school groups, college students, faith-based groups serving on mission trips and community organizations.
We will be looking to take youth and adults to Washington D.C. from July 6th - 10th. If you or someone you know might be interested in going, please attend our first meeting on Sunday, March 9 right after church in the CE Annex.
