Baptism Carved

This Sunday is the traditional Sunday on which we commemorate and celebrate the baptism of Jesus.  Although we will have no one being baptized this Sunday, we all will be renewing our baptismal vows together.  This gives us an opportunity to think about what baptism means and just how we are fulfilling and living out the promises made at our own baptism.

Unfortunately, in our culture today, if parents even bring their child to a church for baptism, it is too often viewed as what good parents are supposed to "do" for the well-being of their child.  It is viewed as a cultural obligation rather than a religious rite belonging to the Church.  Little to no thought is given by many parents or sponsors to raising their child in a church; of giving their child a solid foundation rooted in God on which to build their lives.

To help prepare yourselves for worship this Sunday, think about these questions which are the questions asked at every baptism:

  • Trusting in the gracious mercy of God, do you turn from the ways of sin and renounce evil and its power in the world?
  • Who is your Lord and Savior?
  • Will you be Christ's faithful disciple, obeying his Word and showing his love?

See you in church!

      SUNDAY SCHOOL NEWS

Last week, we learned about the Three Wise men and the gifts they brought to Jesus.  We also explored the choices they had to make to help Jesus and follow God's word.  Review this lesson by discussing what the gifts were and why they were important, also discuss the choices we face every day and how to handle them.

This week, we will learn about Jesus Son of David (Isaiah 11:1-12).  Jesus was one of the descendents of King David.  King David and his ancestors were viewed with great reverence because they ruled for God.

Next week, we will be learning about Martin Luther King.  Martin Luther King was a great civil rights leader.  He used the Lord's teachings of turning the other cheek to deal with the people who went against him.  We will discuss his choices and how he followed God's word.

Sunday School meets every week in the Christian Education Building across the street from 10:20 to 11:20.  It is available to children preschool through fifth grade.  We welcome all children and visitors.

      POINT BEACH PREP

This Week at Point Beach Prep

This week we met Miss M and her monkey!  It was a special week for Mason, who got to show us the M in his name and celebrate his birthday!

At our project table we made a mouse, mittens, moose headbands, a moon, and a monkey. We read many books on tape this week, including The Mousetrap, Miss Mary Mack, Messy Meals, and I Like Myself.  We also read the book If You Give a Moose a Muffin.  We pretended to be mice, learned what sound a moose made, melted like snowmen, played musical instruments and marched in a band!  We learned American Sign Language for M, mother, and me.  For science we explored with magnets and talked about magnetic attraction.  We also had a Mystery Box filled with objects that started with the letter M.  The children would close their eyes and pick out an item.  The other students would give clues for the student to guess the mystery object.  It was a marvelous week!

Our Nursery class changed their dramatic play area to a pizzeria.  Children may look at menus, place orders, and pick toppings for their pizza!  Creative fun happens every day!  They also welcomed 3 new students, all siblings of children in our Pre-K class!  We are playing, learning and growing together!

Have a great weekend!  See you next week with letter N!
