TURN YOUR CLOCKS BACK
THIS SATURDAY NIGHT
And enjoy the extra hour in
the morning

Dear Friends,
When I arrived at church last Sunday, I was greeted in the parking lot by a member saying, "We are under attack." "What now?" I thought.
It turned out that in addition to Pastor Carl being in the hospital, there had been flooding both in the basement of the Annex and the Church basement. I was getting all the details and I had not even gotten two steps away from my car! It did seem as though we were getting assaulted on various sides. On Monday as I sat in the PW coordinating meeting, one of the women said, "We are falling apart. Our people are falling apart as is our Church building." Being under attack (by the forces of evil is what was meant) and falling apart - both pretty clear messages that we as a congregation need to step up to the plate and put ourselves in God's hands as never before. Rather than cry "The sky is falling" we need to TRUST that God will see us through. May these two verses of scripture guide each of us individually and as a congregation:
Psalm 37:5 Commit your way to the Lord; trust in the Lord and the Lord will act. Isaiah 30:15 In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength. Join us Sunday as we put our trust in the Lord and rest in His strength. Blessings,
Linda

Did you enjoy the video short last Sunday, a quick look at many of our church's ministries and people?
We'll be viewing a different one this Sunday, produced by Greg and Sherri Hall for the Stewardship Team. We'll enjoy a different one each Sunday, leading up to Stewardship Commitment Sunday, which is November 17. Afterwards, the videos will be available for viewing on the church website.
The 2014 Stewardship theme is: "Can? Do!" When comes to responding to a stewardship appeal with generosity, the first - and very natural - question is: "Can I?" Well, it's only human for us to ask the question. What God's most interested in is the other half of the theme: "Do!"
This fall, we'll be exploring what it means to be Can-Do Christians, focusing on James 1:22: "But be doers of the word, and not merely hearers..." Join us! |

BAPTISMS - Baptisms will take place on Sunday, November 10 at the 10:00 am worship service. Ordinarily, at least one parent must be a member of PPPC. For more information, please call the Church Office.
ST. GREGORY'S PANTRY NEEDS - The pantry is in need of items for traditional holiday dinners. Boxes of stuffing and potatoes and cans of cranberry sauce, gravy, yams potatoes, and vegetable are especially needed for Thanksgiving distribution. Items can be placed in the baskets in the Narthex. DRIVER WANTED - An elderly couple in our Church are looking for an occasional driver to take them to appointments and errands around Brick. Their car is available for use. If interested please call the office. LYDIA CIRCLE - Will be meeting on Tuesday, November 12 at 1:00 p.m. at the home of Sue Hankins and again at 7:00 p.m at the home of Pat Shoppell. LEADERSHIP RETREAT FOR OFFICERS AND PROGRAM STAFF, led by Monmouth Presbytery's regional presbyter, Wendy Bailey will take place this Wednesday, November 6 at the church from 5:30-9:30 pm. A supper will be provided. Please call the office to RSVP if you have not already. |

Update on Dr. Wilton
As of Friday afternoon, Dr. Wilton remained hospitalized at Ocean Medical Center. Different blood thinners are being administered to dissolve the Pulmonary Emboli in his lungs. Since he still is experiencing limited lung capability, mostly when walking, he remains on Oxygen. His numbers must be raised a little more, before he can be released. They are rising slowly, but in all likelihood he will remain in the hospital through the weekend. Carl is in good spirits and reports that he does not feel ill. He is in a regular room and visitors are welcome.

TIME OF PRAYER
Come and join in a time of prayer for Point Pleasant Presbyterian Church. Our Church, its leaders, the children, indeed all who make their home in PPPC, need prayer. We are experiencing a lot of difficulties right now and scripture makes plain that we need to be rooted and grounded in prayer.
We will meet at 9:00 a.m. on Monday, November 4th in the Sanctuary. Our time together will be thirty minutes. I hope to see you this Monday
Peace, Linda

At the Mission Fair this Year
Rahab's Rope exists to give hope and opportunity to women and girls who are at risk or have been forced into the commercial human trafficking trade of India. By creating a safe and loving environment, we enable the women and girls to grow and develop physically, mentally, and spiritually. Our work provides basic education and vocational training for each girl and woman who come through our centers; ultimately, allowing them to integrate into their communities in a positive and constructive manner. We are a faith based non-profit organization that desires to follow Jesus' teaching and direction on every step of the journey. Our vision is to see lives transformed by God's love in action.
There are many unique items we will be showcasing, including two of the items below.
This necklace brings Hope to thousands of women in India. Through the ministry of Rahab's Rope, a woman hears for the first time there is a God who loves her and has a plan for her life. For the first time she prays to a God who hears and answers. She learns she is beautiful in God's sight, no matter what her past.
Oftentimes in scripture, God uses physical examples to represent spiritual realities. As a ministry, we believe this unique bracelet is also a great example of the work God is doing through the vessel of Rahab's Rope in India. Just like these broken fragments of glass, women who have been shattered by the tragedy of sex slavery walk into our facilities broken. But as the Lord begins to reveal love, forgiveness, and affection for them, God begins to use each broken piece of their heart to create a radiant and joy-filled child of God. Wear this bracelet to remind yourself and others of God's glorious redemption.
Come early for best selection! Saturday December 7, 10 am - 4 pm Sunday, December 8, 10 am - 12 pm

Operation Christmas Child
Since 1993, more than 100 million boys and girls in over 130 countries have experienced God's love through the power of simple shoebox gifts from Operation Christmas Child. Once again the PW will be working with Samaritan's Purse to deliver the gifts and share the life-changing Good News of Jesus Christ.
1. Shoebox
Use an empty shoebox (standard size, please) or a small plastic container. You can wrap the box (lid separately), but wrapping is not required. Most importantly, pray for the child who will receive your gift.
2. Boy or Girl Determine whether your gift will be for a boy or a girl, and the child's age category: 2-4, 5-9, or 10-14. Print out the appropriate boy/girl label by downloading the artwork to the right. Mark the correct age category on the label, and tape the label to the top of your box.
3. Fill with Gifts Fill the box with a variety of gifts that will bring delight to a child. Use the gift ideas provided on the bottom of this page. Please include at least one item a child can immediately embrace such as a stuffed toy, doll, ball or toy truck.
4. Donation $7
Please donate $7 or more for each shoebox you prepare to help cover shipping and other project costs. You can write a check to Samaritan's Purse (note "OCC" on memo line) and place it in an envelope on top of the gift items inside your box. If you or your family are preparing more than one shoebox, please make one combined donation
5. Drop Off Place a rubber band around each closed shoebox and drop it off in the North Hall before November 17, 2013.

Sunday School News
Sunday School meets every Sunday at 10:20 after the Time for Children in the Education Building. All youth 3-12 are invited to come participate in exciting activities that teach children about the Bible.
Last week, we had a blast at our Fall Halloween Party. We created cute decorations and had fun dressing up in our costumes. Thank you so much to my awesome Sunday School Staff for making this party a success!
This week, we are learning about The Servant Girl of Naaman. This little Israelite girl is a slave girl, taken captive in a raid. She is a person utterly without any power in a story that presents a stark contrast between the powerful and the powerless. This powerless little servant girl speaks to Naaman and offers hope to him. Often kids are like this little Israelite girl. They find it hard to speak up, give a word of hope or to offer their resources.
Next week, we will be introducing Jeremiah, the boy prophet, a preacher's kid, who understood early on that God called him to a special ministry (Jeremiah 1:4-10). Be sure to come to Sunday School next week to hear more about this story.
Last, I would like to say "believe it or not Christmas is right around the corner" therefore we will begin to practice for the Holiday Pageant. If you are interested in volunteering to help with this service please contact me (Sarah Morrison, smorrison108@yahoo.com).
