Gifts of the storm

Friends,

We'd originally planned to have worship off-site this Sunday at the Church Picnic, but that has been canceled. So, we'll gather in the Sanctuary at the regular time of 10:00 a.m.

Our worship theme, as it would have been at the picnic, is "GIFTS OF THE STORM."

This is an opportunity for you to listen and share with others what blessings you have seen and/or experienced that have come about due to Hurricane Sandy. If you would like, please come prepared to speak for a minute or two about those blessings (no pressure - we won't put anyone on the spot!).

There will be a special coffee hour afterwards.

Wear your picnic clothes and come worship God in our sanctuary.  Bring a friend or two.  See you there!

Pastor Carl

         PPPC NEWS

Welcome, Sarah Morrison!

Sarah Morrison
This Sunday in worship, we'll be extending a warm Point Pleasant Presbyterian welcome to our new Church School Coordinator, Sarah Morrison.

Having grown up as the daughter of a pastor, Sarah has been around churches all her life. Sarah's dad, the Rev. Rob Morrison (now retired), was founding pastor of the Cornerstone Presbyterian Church in Jackson, and until a very short time ago served as interim pastor at First Presbyterian Church, Manasquan. Sarah's often helped her mother, Kathe, as she directed Christian Education programs in churches where they've been. (Kathe plans to come along some Sundays and help Sarah with our Church School - although she says this time, Sarah's the boss!)

Sarah has a B.S. in Elementary Education and currently works as a pre-school teacher at the Goddard School on Rt. 70 in Toms River. Prior to that, she worked as director of a before-and-after-school program in Cohoes, New York, taught 3rd grade in an Urban Promise Ministries charter school, served as a kindergarten teaching assistant and as a Head Start preschool head teacher.

As a volunteer, she has been a Youth Group Leader, a Sunday School Teacher and a Girl Scout Leader.

Sarah lives in Jackson, but will be spending a lot of time here in Point Beach - on Sunday mornings, of course, but also on Wednesdays during the day and on various weekday evenings.

Sarah is eager to get to know the congregation, especially Church School families and kids. She'll be working to get the Church School program ramped up and ready for Rally Day on September 8th - so, please contact her and let her know you'd be happy to lend a hand!

News and NotesPLEASE REMEMBER - When you are holding a meeting in any of our facilities. please turn off the lights and the air conditioning.  We ask you also to please leave the area clean.  And, last  but not least, please lock the entrance to the building as you leave.  Thank you.

OFFICE COVERAGE NEEDED - The Church Secretary will be on vacation frm August 26-30. We are still looking for two more people to split up the week. If you are available to work a half a day and cover the office, please contact the church office or speak with Sue Hankins. Thank you to all those who have volunteered thus far.

BAPTISMSBaptisms will take place on Sunday, September 22 at the 10:00 am worship service. Ordinarily, at least one parent must be a member of PPPC. For more information, please call the Church Office.

STEWARDSHIP TO MEET - The Stewardship Team will be meeting on Thursday, August 22 at 7:00 p.m. in the Chittick Lounge.  We will be preparing for the fall Stewardship campaign.  Please speak with Jim McGuire if you would like to participate.

Big Band Benefit for Belmar

From the Rev. Bill Morris, pastor of First Presbyterian Church, Belmar:

Nocturnes Big Band
I am very happy - the Jersey Shore's own Nocturnes Big Band is holding two Sandy Relief benefit concerts to support the continuing Hurricane Sandy recovery and restoration work at my church, First Presbyterian of, Belmar! The storm caused over $410,000 of damage to the facility, and we are still, and slowly, recovering. The Nocturnes' concert will be held on:

Thursday, August 22, at 7:30 pm

in the lovely, air-conditioned sanctuary of the church, on the corner of E Street & Ninth Avenue (600 Ninth Avenue) Belmar, NJ.

Please - if you would kindly share this info with your friends & neighbors, that would be greatly appreciated! The more the merrier! Hope you, and they, can attend - the cause is great, and the music will be beautiful!
