Hello friends!

Vegetable harvest in the Napa Valley is earlier this year. I tasted the first tomato from my home garden on June 5. Dr. Dinwiddie, who has grown peaches just down the road from me for the past 25 years, said his peaches ripened two weeks earlier than most years.

This season Nick planted an additional 1/8-acre of veggies on the southwest portion of the Mustards property. With our abundant harvest, beginning on Saturday, July 11, we will open a farm stand at the restaurant on Saturdays. Come on in for lunch, and take home fresh produce.

Speaking of which, we have a new Sous Chef at Mustards, Thomas Harder. After working at various restaurants in the Sacramento area, he left for Europe and worked at Lotus Root in Belgium, a Cal-Asian inspired restaurant. Continuing his culinary journey he spent time in Spain, Italy, France, and the UK. He said the UK has terrible fruit but their vegetables are amazing. Please welcome Tom the next time you are in.

At Mustards, lobster shack is back for Pair Off Pour Off Fridays. Yippee for all you crustacean and lobster roll lovers-check out the menu.

Jim showcases a menu of fried chicken recipes this month at Cindy's Backstreet Kitchen (CBK). Not only Southern style fried chicken but Korean, Hawaiian, and other international cuisines. And Dustin and the bartending staff are pouring flavorful "new age" bourbon cocktails at the bar.

Remember, Thursday, July 30 is National Cheesecake Day. Both Mustards and Cindy's Backstreet Kitchen will feature this delectable dessert. Come on in and indulge.

I discovered recently the Korean version of Julia Child, Maangchi. Her new cookbook, Maangchi's Real Korean Cooking is a very good resource for Korean home cooking, as well as her YouTube posts.

At the Monterey Bay Aquarium the fabulous Jellies Experience closes after Labor Day. Evenings by the Bay begins this month through September 6 when the Aquarium is open until 8pm on Saturday and Sunday nights including live music, wine tasting, and treats from the caf available.

How I do love tomatoes. This month's recipe includes several varieties. Quick work with a knife, add cheese, grilled bread, dressing and voila, you have a showstopper.

Stay cool and use lots of sunscreen...
