"Education is an ornament in prosperity and a refuge in adversity." These words from Aristotle illustrate a truth that most Young Harris College alumni have come to find - that the lessons we learned, both in and out of the classroom, run as deep as the mountains that surround the College. These lessons inform us, ground us and allow us to build upon them to reach for even greater heights.
I graduated from YHC in 2012 with a bachelor's degree in business and public policy. While on campus, I was active in the Student Government Association, Honor Council and as a brother of Alpha Omega. I also had the privilege of serving as a College Representative and Student Ambassador. Outside of Young Harris, I have served as a Congressional intern and recently returned from a journey through Europe.
As a member of the College's Young Alumni Council, I have had the opportunity to share many of the gifts I received at YHC with others. The gift I've enjoyed sharing most is my understanding of what Young Harris College is. It's a place that affords its students the opportunity to discover that a life full of learning is a life well led.

Alumni Spotlight: Jane Harrell Roberts
Sometimes one conversation can have a profound effect on an entire household. This was the case for the Harrell family, of Bainbridge, who first heard about Young Harris College when the family's patriarch, Thomas, casually mentioned to his friend Ed Brock, of Whigham, that he was looking for a small, nurturing institution for his eldest daughter to attend. "Mr. Brock's children had attended YHC, and he gave rave reviews about his family's experience with Young Harris," explained Jane Harrell Roberts, '70. "I had intended to attend the University of Georgia until I visited my sister on campus. I felt so welcomed by the faculty and students that I followed her to YHC instead." Read more>>

In Memory of Mrs. Fay Harmon Clegg Hoag, '33Since 1933, a strong yet graceful woman supported, guided, nourished and thoroughly loved Young Harris College in every way possible. Often referred to as the beloved "Guardian Angel" of YHC, Fay Harmon Clegg Hoag, '33, was a central member of the local community for more than 80 years. Mrs. Hoag was born in Maysville and grew up the daughter of a cotton farmer in Unadilla. She enrolled at YHC during some of the nation's toughest economic times. She captured the heart of a distinguished educator and YHC alumnus, Dr. Charles Clegg, '27, and the pair wed soon after she graduated from YHC with an associate of arts degree. Read more>>

YHC Introduces New Piece of Appalachian Folk Art
Young Harris College recently introduced a new piece of folk art in the form of a "bottle tree" located in front of the Center for Appalachian Studies and Community Engagement (CASCE). This colorful and unique addition to campus is the result of a collaborative effort between the CASCE, Sodexo Physical Plant and Department of Art at YHC. "We were thrilled to be able to install the bottle tree at the center," said Director of the CASCE and Professor of Communication Studies Ron Roach, Ph.D. "Not only does it help beautify the campus, but it also helps preserve an important folk tradition from the southern mountains." Young Harris College recently established a new Faculty Lecture Series this semester that began in January and will continue through April. This inaugural series gives faculty members the opportunity to present and discuss specific topics of interests that go beyond the standard course curriculum. The idea for the new series came about in fall 2012 when Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dean of the Faculty and Professor of English and Creative Writing Gary Myers, Ph.D., expressed a desire to find ways for students and faculty to interact outside the classroom during a Division of Humanities faculty meeting.
