My name is Terry Crouch, and I attended Young Harris College from 1957 to 1959. As a student at YHC, I was fortunate enough to be awarded a scholarship that included playing tennis and basketball. During my first year, I lived in Hamby Hall with Dan Lee, '59, as my roommate. Basketball practice during that year meant a lot of time in the gym-I even got a bad case of shin splints. To make matters worse, per instructions from Coach Luke Rushton, I had to shoot 10,000 jump shots during the summer of 1958 to earn my scholarship for the following year.
As classes began in the fall on 1958, rooms for students were woefully short. Six members of the basketball team (including me) were housed in the basement of the old gym. I guess you could say we were athletes who really "lived in the gym." Hotshot Jimmy Jones, '59, was the only guy that got a real room. Ha! Great times at the ole YHC...

Alumni Spotlight: Joy Kimsey King
Young Harris College alumna Joy Kimsey King, '69, has always had a love for adventure. A self-proclaimed "country girl" from Clarkston, King chose YHC because she wanted to follow in the footsteps of her older brother, Mac Kimsey, '60. Once she moved to the north Georgia mountains, her brother's influence was still very present. "Several boys from my hometown attended YHC, but I was one of the only girls. Because I had an older brother and I was from the country, I thought it was a lot of fun when we caught a baby rattlesnake and put it in the dorm mother's room," King recalled. "I was a preacher's kid who was away from home for the first time. I had no idea everyone would think a rattlesnake was a terrible idea. It was only a baby!" Read more>>
