" Light"

Sometime back, Sarah and I visited an old mine that had been out of use for a long time.

As we followed the tour guide, he took us deeper and deeper into the unused areas.  Along the way there were light bulbs so we could see where we were going.

At one point, though, he turned out all the lights and it was absolutely dark.

I remember putting my hand up to my face and not being able to see it at all.

Spiritually, our world is like that.  Spiritually, there is complete darkness, unawareness and blindness--except for where the presence and reflection of God shines.

You are a flashlight

for God!

You, and all other godly people, are the lights that God has placed in the world. Without the presence of Christ and Christians, the world would be fully darkness.

Jesus said,

"You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. n the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven."

--Matthew 5:14-16

Shine today!

This Sunday, July 12, 2015
Do you find yourself doing things you wish you would not do?  Or, do you find yourself not doing things you should do?  This is something that every person and every Christian struggles with at times.

But God does not want to leave us in a state of mind where that is the defining aspect of our lives.  By His power and work in us, we can grow to doing what we know is His will and avoiding what we know is not His will.

So many believers get tripped up in this area and begin to believe that the way of weakness is the way it will always be.  God shows many times throughout the Bible that He does not leave us in the way of weakness and that His will and strength changes everything.  This Sunday, Pastor Wes will be preaching from the seventh chapter of Romans where Paul addresses this issues.  Please read the chapter this week and prayerfully consider what God would have you--and all of us--learn about victorious living.
Volunteers for Children's Ministry

Do you love kids!  Are you passionate about seeing kids know Jesus and grow in Him?

We have openings for volunteers to lead and assist in Children's Ministry.  Even if you don't have experience, if you do know Jesus as Savior and care for kids, please speak with Pastor Wes.

Vacation Bible School 2015 "Everest"
and Other KidMin News

Our VBS for this year is called Everest and the theme is Conquering Challenges with God's Mighty Power. The link for registration is also live and ready for kids to pre-register! Click here to see the new pre-registation site and keep us in prayer as we get ready to have the most kids we've ever had and to share with them the great love of our Lord! The VBS will be from July 20-24th. There was a good planning meeting for workers on Sunday evening, and we are so appreciative of the fine leadership provided by Marly!

Work Progressing on the Property
There are important tasks to be done on the church building and property. In recent weeks, there has been repair and painting of the parsonage fence, painting of the church trim, repair work to the parsonage air conditioning system and this week we begin the replacement of smoke detectors in the church building.  Hopefully, next week, there will be something begun on the underground gas lines that supply the five furnace units. Also, in recent weeks the kitchen has been thoroughly cleaned and reorganized!

Thanks to every person who gives of their time to participate in these tasks!  Also, thanks to those who give faithfully and generously so that all the these needs can be taken care of.

If you have opportunity to help out with these or other upcoming additional repairs and maintenance, please speak with Pastor Wes
Transition, Participation and Leadership
As we go through this days of pastoral transition, it is vital that every member of the GCCN congregation assist that all goes well.

What can you do?
1.)  Pray fervently for the Church;

2.) See ways of participating in extra ways. How wonderful it is when someone comes to a Church leader and asks: "What can I do, how can I help?"  Wonderful words to hear!

3.) Think about participating in leadership in a new way.  Do you have gifts and talents that are not being adequately utilized for the Lord and His Church?  Put those to use!  It will bless you and others!

Truth From God's Word
"This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth.  But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin."  --1 John 1:5-7
