"Number Our Days"

Do you have some strange habits that you do regularly--perhaps for no reason at all?

I do.  For some reason, whenever I go up or down stairs, I count the stairs.
This isn't new, I've done it for years.
Fourteen steps to the second floor, 12 steps to the basement, 4 steps into the church...and on and on it goes.

I'm not sure when I started this.  Perhaps it started when I was a firefighter and we learned it was important to pay attention to details.  So around that time I began to focus on situational awareness--always studying the surroundings and be aware of the safety issues.
Those who have worked with me over the years can pretty well attest to my obsession:
"Safety first!"

In the long run, I don't know if counting steps will ever be of any value.  But for each one of us, we all need to have a situational awareness of where we are in life.
What are the details of how we are living?  Where are the potential problems and threats.  How could things go wrong?

The Psalmist says to God: "Teach us to number our days correctly, so that we may gain a heart of wisdom."
--Psalm 90:12

Perhaps we should take a daily count and accounting of where we are in life and ensure that we are indeed growing, progressing, transforming into the Image of Jesus Christ.

Some people grow old without ever growing up.   Christ's disciples have reason and the calling to grow every single day.

May it be so!

May 31, 2015
There is no higher, more fulfilling, more joyous life to be had than to seek the righteousness that God has for us!   And that righteousness is given to us because of His love for the human race.

This Sunday, Pastor Wes will be preaching about the righteousness offered by God from the sermon series from the Epistle to the Romans, chapter 3.  Please read the chapter in advance of Sunday and please pray for God's Holy Spirit to prepare and anoint the hearts of each one in attendance.

Follow these instructions: Don't look at your watch or the computer screen clock. Now answer this question: What time is it? Did you look at your watch? Did you look at the computer screen? Were you tempted to? That's what we're talking about tonight as we look forward to the end of the Lord's Prayer. See you at 7p! (You may now look at all of those things.)

The Young Adults Retreat is finally here! On June 18-21, the district's young adults will be travelling to Quakertown, PA for this year's retreat called "Endeavor". THE TEN COMMANDMENTS FOR A CHURCH WHEN LOSING
IT'S PASTOR  ....By Dr. Jim Garlow

1. Remember, in life, change is a given. Everything (except God) changes. It is inevitable. So don't waste energy in denial or "fighting it."

2. This is not the end of the world; it only feels like it. God really does love you and He will soon prove it by bringing you another wonderful pastor.

3. The pastor didn't leave because he doesn't like you...or because he likes some other church better. He is simply trying to obey God.

4. If, by chance, you were critical of the pastor, repent. Otherwise there will be curse on the church, and you won't like the consequences. God is not interested in protecting the outgoing pastor as a person, but he is jealous about the office of ministry.

5. Encourage those around you that God's hand is definitely still on the church.

6. If you are not on the governing body which selects the new pastor, then pray for them and encourage them.

7. If you are on the governing board, then pray and fast. When you finish that, do it again.

8. Never ever, ever, ever "campaign" for your favorite "candidate." Stop being God. Let Him install who He would. Let the church board have full liberty. This is not the Republican or Democratic Convention. If you "campaign," a factious spirit will enter the congregation and you will be the one who let it in.

9. Above all, stand by your church. She stood by you lots of times. This is one of those time your church needs you. Don't leave. If you leave, it reveals things about you that you don't want to hear.

10. Stay positive! Keep a smile on your face and a song in your heart. Assure others "it will be all right"...because it will.
Building Repairs
Unfortunately, there are several repairs needed on the church property, including two major building issues to address over the coming months.  The most recent fire inspection is calling for us to replace all of the hard-wired smoke detectors in the church building. The second issue is that we have water leaking into the gas lines that supply the five furnaces. That will likely require that all of the underground gas lines need to be replaced.  Please pray that we will be able to accomplish these necessary repairs in an effective and cost-efficient way.

Truth From God's Word
"Be dressed ready for service and keep your lamps burning, like men waiting for their master to return from a wedding banquet, so that when he comes and knocks they can immediately open the door for him. It will be good for those servants whose master finds them watching when he comes. I tell you the truth, he will dress himself to serve, will have them recline at the table and will come and wait on them. It will be good for those servants whose master finds them ready, even if he comes in the second or third watch of the night. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what hour the thief was coming, he would not have let his house be broken into. You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him."
