"Truly, Mother's Day"

I spoke with my mother on Mother's Day twice--early in the morning and then again at 2:30 in the afternoon.

She was delighted to be home after 11 weeks of shuttling between hospital and rehab centers.

She was glad to talk and she especially appreciated the Mother's Day gift that Sarah and I had sent.

I could tell that she was struggling--short on breath--and she said that no food appealed to her.

Later that same day, I got a call from my sister to say that mother had died.

So the day that we celebrate mothers became the day that the Lord chose to take her to her eternal home.  What better gift could she possibly receive?

It was truly

 "Mother's.... Day."

She committed her heart to Jesus Christ when she was 4 years old and now she was ninety-seven.

All those years she was ready, preparing, anticipating this day.

Later this week we will be singing the songs she requested for her funeral.  The words of one of them go like this:

"And then one day

I'll cross the river;

I'll fight life's final war with pain.

And then, as death gives way to victory,

I'll see the lights of glory--and I'll know He reigns.

Because He lives, I can face tomorrow; Because He lives,

all fear is gone.

Because I know

He holds the future

And life is worth the living just because

He lives."

Praise God for life well lived!

Praise God for another saint safely reaching home!

Sunday, May 17, 2015
This Sunday, Chaplain Tom Beard will be preaching from God's word, as Pastor Wes and Sarah will be in Northern New York for the occasion of Pastor's mother's funeral.

Chaplain Tom Beard also is experiencing family loss this week as his mother-in-law passed away last weekend.  Please keep those who are grieving in your prayers--though "we don't not suffer as those who are without hope."

Immediately following the Morning Worship Service, there will be a reception for the Deeter Family as they will shortly be relocating to Colorado.  We will indeed miss this dear family and know that God is leading them and will bless them!
Ladies of Grace Spring Event--CANCELLED
We are so sorry, but this event is cancelled for this week due to the death of Sarah's mother-in-law.
Volunteers, Participants and Leaders

As Grace Community Church goes through pastoral and leadership transition over these coming months, it is important that we all do what we can to make the transition as smooth and wonderful as possible.  You can help in these three ways:

1.) Pray.  Pray for GCCN, wisdom and discernment for leaders, and for the person God already has in mind for the Church.

2.) Support: Support with the presence, your participation and by being faithful in tithes and offerings.  Times of change can be a challenge, but as each person stays faithful, change ushers new opportunities of God's blessing and presence.

3.) Volunteer: There are many roles and opportunities for service in the ministries of the Church.  If everyone pitches in and gives some time and energy, these could be some of the best days of the Church and prepare for the next phase is important ways.  We need a children's Sunday School teacher, someone who would open up each Sunday morning, someone who would consider leading the Men's Ministry; several people who would give a few hours and month for building and property issues, someone who would visit our seniors.  Other options exist as well. Please do as you are able and you too will be blessed!

See you next week!
Times of Prayer
As Grace Community Church goes into days of leadership transition, please increase your prayer for the Church and its leadership.  How important that there is wisdom and God's will among all that happens over these coming months!  We will be announcing additional times of prayer as we proceed.  You are invited to join in prayer  this Wednesday evening from 6-8 at Pastor Wes' office or wherever you wish at the church building.
Upcoming Building Repairs
Unfortunately, there are serveral repairs needed on the church property, including two major building issues to address over the coming months.  The most recent fire inspection is calling for us to replace all of the hard-wired smoke detectors in the church building. The second issue is that we have water leaking into the gas lines that supply the five furnaces. That will likely require that all of the underground gas lines need to be replaced.  Please pray that we will be able to accomplish these necessary repairs in an effective and cost-efficient way.
Flat Screen TVs Needed

During our worship times together, it can sometimes be quite a challenge to see the screen.  Moving around and standing on your tiptoes is an option.  Another option would be to have one more TV screen positioned in a place which would be readily visible.  Also, the teen youth room is in need of a flat-screen tv for the ministries that take place there.  If you are able and willing to donate one or both of these, that would be a great help!  These would cost about $800 each with the supporting mounting and connecting hardware. Contributions of any size toward this would help.  Please mark your gift: "Flat-Screens for Ministry"

Truth From God's Word
"Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed-- in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: "Death has been swallowed up in victory." "Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?" The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain."
