 Thoughts from Pastor Wes

"Crowdsourcing
the Gospel"

One fascinating aspect of online communities is the ability to galvanize many people in a single cause with amazing results.

So many stories about fundraising:  the Detroit man who walks 21 miles to work gets more than enough money to buy a new car;  the guy who would make potato salad for ten bucks instead raises more than $55,000;  the bus monitor who was beat up gets 3/4 of a million dollars from sympathetic donors.  And then there is "

There is great power in community when it moves together on a single cause.
Imagine if there was a specifically Christian version of Kickstarter or Indeigogo where Christian banded together to accomplish great, specific needs for people around the world.  Micro-economics backed by wide swaths of people could greatly change families, villages and regions.

But leaving aside finances, what about crowdsourcing in relation to prayer.  Would it make a difference in a region if a vast number of believers prayed on the same day or in the same week for a specific need?

Jesus said: "May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that you sent me..."
John 17:23
Sunday, February 8, 2015
"I am not ashamed of the Gospel of Jesus Christ because it is the power of God for the salvation of everyone who believes, first to the Jew, then to the Gentile."  These words from the Apostle Paul come across boldly!

Shame is traditionally linked to bad choices, immorality--sin.  But our old adversary who majors in inverting and perverting the good that God has created seeks to make the goodness of God into something to be ashamed about.  When we hold to the absolute truth that Jesus Christ is God's way of bringing salvation to the world, any embarrassment is transcended by assurance and passion.   This Sunday, Pastor Wes will lead us in a close look at Romans 1:16 and the application for us today.
Alabaster Offering--How is it Raised?
Penny
The Alabaster Offering provides funds for property and buildings around the world.

The most widely used reminder for the Alabaster Offering is the little box that we can drop our pocket change into. Once a year, in February, we bring those boxes in and donate the change to fund ministry buildings and property around the world.  How much has been raised through this collection of "pennies"?  Across our denomination since 1949 over 102 million dollars!  Next week we'll see what those funds have accomplished.  Don't forget to bring your Alabaster box on Sunday!

Truth From God's Word
God gave "some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God's people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.           ---Ephesians 4:11-13
