 Thoughts from Pastor Wes

"A Deceptive and Effective Lie"

Yesterday, January 27th marked the solemn 70th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp where over 1 million Jews were murdered.

These Jews were not killed for anything they had done, merely for who they were--deemed unfit for life based on their heritage.

The commemorations this week are another reminder of the great evil of which fallen humanity is capable--let us never forget that!

Over the entrance to Auschwitz is the famous German sign:
"ARBEIT MACHT FREI"
translated meaning
"Work makes (you) free." This cruel lie was posted at many of the Nazi prison entrances.

The promise of freedom did not materialize for 6,000,000 Jews, rather, their lives ended in torture and death.

It is also an age-old lie of satan that our works  bring true freedom.
So many people continue to believe that our work can earn our ultimate freedom.
It doesn't and it can't.

"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith-- and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no one can boast."
--Ephesians 2:8-9
Sunday, February 1, 2015
Benjamin Franklin is credited with stating: He who shall introduce into public affairs the principles of early Christianity will change the face of the world."

Our Christian faith consists of change, constant change, unceasing change.  It is not haphazard, true Christian practice is always change toward the image of God as reflected in the life of Jesus Christ.

The Apostle Paul said that he wanted to go to Rome so that the followers of Jesus there as well as himself "may be mutually encouraged by each other's faith."  Christians everywhere are to have an impact on one another as we learn and live God's will.
This Sunday, Pastor Wes leads in looking at Romans 1:8-15. Contemplate this passage in your devotional time this week. Pray for insight and application and for Pastor as he prepares.  May we all be changed as God's word is applied to our lives.

Truth From God's Word
"Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit."
