Thoughts from
Pastor Wes

"Milestones"

A few years ago, Bergen Groendyke and myself walked much of the Delaware and Raritan Canal.  The Canal begins along the Delaware River south of Frenchtown and proceeds about 70 miles to a central portion of New Jersey.  Much of it was hand dug 180 years ago by young men from Ireland, some of whom are buried in unmarked graves along the Canal.

At the time, Bergen was close to 90 years of age, but we would walk 2 or 3 miles each Thursday with his dear wife, Doris, dropping us off at one spot and meeting us at another.  I treasure those memories of exercise and conversation, partly because Bergen has since gone to be with the Lord.

Along the Canal there are occasional stone markers--mile posts--that let you know how far you have come and how far you have to go to complete the Canal.

Milestones, monuments, markers are important reminders that life has purpose and direction. They reminds us what has happened and where we are in the process.  New Year's Day, birthdays, anniversaries are all reminders of important events that shape our story and give color to our identity.

When the Israelites crossed the Jordan River, it was a rebirth of a free, delivered people returning to their homeland. God told them to take stones from the River and make a monument that would aid in remembering His deliverance of them.
You can read about it in the Book of Joshua, chapter 4.

Let us never forget what God has done in our lives.  Let us tell our children of His great mercy, power and love!
This Sunday at Grace Community
Relationships.  Sometimes they gives us the greatest joys we experience.  Other times....
Beginning this Sunday, Pastor Wes will be teaching on "Christ's Prescription  for Great Relationships." This seven-part sermon series is based upon some specific relational teachings of Jesus in the "Sermon on the Mount," Matthew 5-7.  Pray for God's Word to clearly be reflected through His word in our lives and relationships.

Good News From God's Word
"Praise the LORD. I will extol the LORD with all my heart in the council of the upright and in the assembly. Great are the works of the LORD; they are pondered by all who delight in them. Glorious and majestic are his deeds, and his righteousness endures forever. He has caused his wonders to be remembered; the LORD is gracious and compassionate."
