" What Would Happen?"

When Jesus commanded His disciples to wait for the Holy Spirit to come upon them, He did not tell them how long they would have to wait.  It was an open-ended command and the disciples were agreeing to a commitment in which they did not fully know the terms.

But they trusted Jesus!  Ten days later the Holy Spirit came upon them with power!

God does special and amazing things when people agree to open-ended commitments to Him.

In his struggle with God, Jacob said, "I will not let you go until you bless me."

Gypsy Smith, a 19th century evangelist is said to have drawn a circle in the dirt around himself and to not leave the circle until God's presence had come upon Him with power.

Open-ended commitment touches the heart of God.

Do you sometimes wonder what would happen if one person put all else aside to seek God's answer and favor for a specific reason?  What if 120 people came together  these days to intercede for an outpouring of the Holy Spirit?
What would happen?

God would not disappoint.  God would accomplish great things in response to that open-ended commitment!
Pentecost: Birth Day of the Church
Forty days after the resurrection of Jesus, just before returning to the Father, Jesus commanded His disciples,  "Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about." That gift was the Holy Spirit--the Third Person of the Trinity and Godhead.  For the next ten days the disciples waited and prayed in Jerusalem----then, the Holy Spirit came upon them with power!   They were changed!  The Church leaped forward with power and from that day until today the Gospel of Jesus Christ has permeated the whole world.  This Sunday, we celebrate the first Pentecost and we seek a fresh  21st Century Pentecost where the Holy Spirit again transforms His people.  Please pray for God's Holy Spirit to come upon us today!
Superintendent Newell and Anne Smith this Sunday
We are delighted to have Newell and Anne Smith with us this Sunday, Pentecost Sunday.  It is truly fitting that Newell will be able to preach on that day, because he is deeply passionate that God brings a 21st Pentecost to our nation--and how very much we need that!.  Newell and Anne have lovingly served as Philadelphia District Leaders for almost 15 years and  much good has happened under their leadership.  It is indeed an honor for us to have them and you will want to bring family and friends to meet them and be blessed by them.
  Church Potluck Dinner this Sunday
fork & knife
Following the wonderful Pentecost Worship Service this Sunday, we will have a church dinner.  Each family is invited to bring a main dish and salad or dessert to share with all.  Something in a slow cooker is a good option if that works best for you.  Stay, enjoy the food and fellowship and take a few moments to meet and visit with Newell and Anne Smith.

Good News From God's Word
"When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them....And about three thousand were added to their number that day."  ---Acts 2:1-4, 41.
