One evening, I heard something wrong with my now junked '94 Oldsmobile 88. It started making a weird noise. The car always made weird noises, so I ignored it. A few days later, I tried to start the car and I heard a really bad sound. Metal sounded it was scrapping against metal. It sounded like death. Oh. My. Word. It was horrible. I opened up the hood (because that's what you do) and it sounded like a 60-year-old chain smoker
A member of our church came over and said that there's something wrong with the "Harmonic Balancer" which apparently is attached to the belt of the car, which makes the engine not bounce up and down or something like that.
I've been doing something new in my devotion life. Not just journaling, but SLAP. Whenever I read, I write down the Summary of the passage, a Lesson that I feel the passage is showing me, something to keep me Accountable to what I'm reading and a Prayer. This is something new that has kept my engine running. Some mornings, I don't really feel like doing this. It's early, I want to watch TV before going to the church office, and I'm not really awake yet. However, this one small part of the day, if not taken care of, messes the rest of my day up.
Having my devotion time in the morning is my harmonic balancer. I need it so that my bodily engine can function properly.
It sometimes takes 20 minutes, sometimes an hour. Sometimes I feel that God was changing my heart on something, other times I learn something new about my Lord. It's a wonder what God uses to speak to us as long as we are willing to let Him open up the hood and look around. He's the Almighty Mechanic that you can trust.
I need my harmonic balancer everyday.
