From Pastor Wes
"Mother's Day"
Sunday is
Mother's Day. Grammatically, that is in the "singular possessive," not the plural. That isn't to detract from honoring all mothers. But it is written that way to remember that mother's are honored one at at time.
While each mother is unique, distinctive and worthy of individual honor, there are some common traits that seem to represent all good mothers.
One person said the definition of a sweater is a " garment worn by child when its mother is feeling chilly." Another said, " A mother is a person who upon seeing there are only four pieces of pie for five people, promptly announces she never did care for pie." The author, Pearl S. Buck said: "Some mothers are kissing mothers and some are scolding mothers, but it is love just the same, and most mothers kiss and scold together." Abraham Lincoln reflected: I remember my mother's prayers and they have always followed me. They have clung to me all my life." In years gone past, boys and men would arrive at church with either a red carnation or white carnation in the lapel: red to signify their mother was alive, white to signify that mom had died. It seems carnations at church have gone the way of the dodo. I am so glad that I could wear a red carnation this year to honor one specific mother. Thanks, Mom!

This Sunday, Mother's Day This Sunday, Mother's Day, we will honor our mother's and ladies in a variety of ways.
1.) There will be a gift for every lady in attendance
2.) We will be taking a GCCN full-church group photograph of everyone in attendance. Remember seeing those pictures from days gone past when the whole church gathered for one photograph? Beginning this Mother's Day, we're starting an annual tradition of a yearly GCCN whole-Church photograph. This will help all of us to get to know one another. Don't miss being part of the GCCN 2013 Church picture!
3.) There will be a Mother's Day church dinner provided by Roger and Yvonne! This will immediately follow the Church photo. All are welcome! Come and enjoy, stay and fellowship! |
My Hope America with Billy Graham
"My Hope America with Billy Graham" is a nationwide effort to reach people across the United States with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Following a simple biblical model, "My Hope America with Billy Graham" combines the impact of video programs with the power of personal relationships.
Are there family and friends that you know and love, but you also know if they were to die today that they would not make it to heaven? Do you believe there is anything you can do that may make an eternal difference in that person's life?
Grace Community Church will be holding 2 preparation meetings for this ministry initiative on Tuesday, May 28 at 1:30 pm and 5:30. Come out and see what it is about! No cost to you, register here.
Food will be served at the 5:30 session for those who are coming straight from work.

Men's Ministry Upcoming Events

Men, we have only two more sessions in "The Quest" before we break for the summer. The next one is Tuesday evening, May 21 @ 7:00 pm at Pastor Wes' home. Even if you haven't been able to make it to any so far, you'll benefit from this time and session together. The last session in this series will be Tuesday, June 4, then a wrap-up BBQ at Pastor's home on June 11th.
We need to put together a "3-hour workday" on an upcoming Saturday. If we have 5-7 guys for 3 hours on a Saturday morning, we can get some vital things done around the Church.
Some men have expressed an interest in one or both of two midsummer get-togethers. We need to assess participation levels for each of these:
1.) Trenton Thunder baseball outing with picnic at the park.
2.) White-water rafting up in the Poconos.
Express you interest in one or both of these by emailing Pastor Wes at RWTink01@gmail.com. These would be in either July or August and the dates would be determined by those who are interested. Be strong. God's way!

Have You Gotten Your Grace Cards? Anytime you have a conversation and your faith in Jesus Christ comes up or discussion about Church, you can just hand your friend a copy of this card. This gives information about where we are, who we are and where we are located. Not only does the back side have a map and directions, it also has a QR code that will take those who have smart phones immediately to the Grace Community website. We have plenty of these cards. Take as many as you want as often as you need. Your action may change a life forever! God will work through you on this! |
