"Fiscal Cliff"

So this week its the fiscal cliff.  When I was a child it was Soviet bombs.  Then the world was headed into an ice age.  Next was Y2K. Now the world is going to overheat.

In two weeks the ancient Mayan calendar ends so the world is going to end--or so I've been told.  Its amazing any of us have any sanity or peace.

One of the great things about knowing Jesus Christ as our Savior and Lord is that we also know a loving God created this world.  That doesn't mean that we stick our heads in the sand or sing Kumbaya in a circle while history proceeds.   But it also means that we don't need to fret or panic about every new "crisis" that comes along.

We have a deep awareness that the universe and human events are not just haphazard--with no meaning and purpose--but there is a guiding Sovereign Hand that weaves grace, hope and help throughout creation.

God with us, God coming into our world is the emphatic exclamation that we need not have fear as our default position, but rather trust!  Trust that God can and will work His perfect will for every one who trusts in Him!

We can say with the Psalmist:

"Those who know your name will trust in you, for you, LORD, have never forsaken those who seek you" (9:10).

Hold on to that when the next crisis comes along!

Honor God and He will honor you!

The First Sunday of Advent
This Second Sunday of Advent, Pastor Wes will be begin a three-part sermon series, "Journey to Bethlehem." The birth of Jesus drew people to Bethlehem...Everyone of us are traveling somewhere, on our path to something.  Have we considered the goal and the way in which God seeks to lead us to where we need to be?  Please prepare your heart for Christ's special presence during Advent.
Truth. Life. Love.

Three very foundational words: truth, life, love.  Which order would put them in and why?  Email your thoughts to Pastor Wes.

Preparing for 2013 Covenant Sunday
Covenant Sunday is the first Sunday of each year at Grace Community Church.  First and foremost, this is an opportunity to remember our commitment to God and our salvation in Jesus Christ.  For some, it may be an opportunity to commit to Jesus Christ for the very first time--what a great way to start the year!

It is also a time to review and renew our commitment to Christ through the local Church, to prayerfully consider our relationship with God in community.  Everyone is welcome to Grace Community Church, and one of our opportunities is to hold and have membership, accountability and responsibility in this community of faith.

We encourage every member of the congregation during the month of December to prepare for the Covenant Service by go to our website, reading the documents relating to the Covenant and Covenant Service and to prayerfully prepare for this important event in our Christian and Church life.  You can access this information by clicking on Covenant Documents and also see much of the Service by clicking on January 2013 Covenant Service.  This will be time well invested!
Kids and Teen News

Kumusta! Here's the scoop in youth lives of the youth and kids this week.

Continuing with our theme of HIStory, we will look at the story of the birth of Jesus from all aspects. We plan on looking at the story from the wise men, the innkeepers and of course Jesus' family. Join us as we journey to Bethlehem!

December 8th is our last quiz meet of 2012  in New Holland, PA. We'll be on Matthew chapter 16 at that time.

We are planning to have an end of the year party. We are thinking about going to the bowling center in Lawerenceville, NJ.

"2012 Paid in Full" Goal

During the course of 2012 we have slipped significantly behind in our ministry commitments. Some in our congregation have lost employment. Some of our dear seniors who were faithful in tithes and offerings have left for heaven.  We have also increased our commitment to Children and Youth Ministry by 1800% To end 2012 with all of our ministry commitments paid in full, it is vital that we raise an additional $12,000 before the end of the year.  That is a great challenge at this time, but as we are all responsive to God's leading, it will happen!   Focus not on how little you can give, but how much! God will bless you in countless ways as you trust Him in this!    Thank you!!
