"Tiny Thoughts"

I suppose if someone asked me who some of the great people of our times are, near the top of my list might be General David Petraeus.

Gifted, successful, incredibly disciplined, brilliant and effective.  The General graduated from West Point, has a earned doctorate from Princeton University, and proved his ability by turning around the Iraq war at a time America seemed to be flailing.

If there is any man alive seemed to be destined for the top of whatever he aimed for, it was General Petraeus!

But now the General joins a long list of other who has crashed his career into a ditch and brought disrepute upon himself, suffering to many around him and a great loss for the nation.

These types of crashes, succumbing to the temptations of the flesh, do not begin with egregious acts.  They begin with tiny little thoughts--thoughts if we toy with begin to get a hold and control upon us.  The inevitable result is sorrow and shame.  God tells us in Proverbs "There is a way that seems right to a man, but the end is destruction" (16:25).  Those tiny thoughts can lead to great destruction in our lives and others.  By God's power, we need to address those thoughts as early as possible, claim the power and presence of God.  "Resist the devil, and he will flee from you."

Pray for the General.

Pray for one another.

Pray for nation.

Pray that God will protect and sustain those who the leaders and models for others.

The Church Jesus Builds: Fellowship
ChurchJesusBuildsLogo

The Church that Jesus Builds is marked by godly fellowship!  Christ calls us to continually practice agape love for one another.  He leads us to be in deep, positive and meaningful relationship with one another and to build one another up.  This is one of the key marks that the Church is of Jesus Christ and that He is present. Sunday is the 10th sermon in this series on Christ's plan  for His Church. Prepare your heart by praying for God's truth and presence to be with us as we worship Him. Note: We'll be in the Main Sanctuary.

Thanksgiving Sunday

This Sunday, November 18, we will celebrate and thank God for Who He is and for His many wonderful blessings and provisions. Our Thanksgiving Dinner will follow the morning worship service.   Each family is invited to bring one dish to share and a dessert. God has been so good to us and we rejoice in that together!

Men's Ministry
As of last evening, we have finished the first  portion of "The Quest."--good going, men! We won't be meeting for the next two weeks, our next time is Tuesday, December 4th.  Do start on your "Master Plan."  Digital copies will be in your email box today.  If you have any problems with that or need a hard copy, let Pastor Wes know asap.

Our only Tuesday meetings left before the end of 2012 will be on December 4 and 11.  We will then be taking off until January 8th.
Kids and Teen News

Shalom! It's Wednesday! I pray that all is well! Here's the scoop this week.

We finally get back to normal tonight at youth group. HIStory continues tonight.

Friday, a few of our teens will be competing  in the annual Philadelphia Festival of Life! Events include basketball volleyball, dodgeball, singing, acting, puppetry, chess, math and science quizzing and more! It does cost a little bit for our students ($40 per student). If you would like to donate any monies to the FOL fund, please mark an envelope in the offering that says FOL2013. Any money not yet used will be used for the Regional FOL at Eastern Nazarene College in March!

Have a great day in the Lord!

GCCN: Ending 2012 Financial Year Strong

The congregation of Grace Community Church is faithful and generous. Many of our people give sacrificially and in a variety of ways and God works through that to accomplish much good!

Watch your mailbox for a letter this week that gives a clear picture of where the Church is financially as we come to the end of 2012. We have so much to praise God for! By His power and our faithfulness we will begin 2013 poised to take the next steps forward He has for us.

Christmas Spectacular at Fountain of Life

There will be a Grace Community Church trip on December 7, 2012 to see the wonderful Christmas presentation at Fountain of Life Church in Burlington County.  We will be leaving from GCCN at 6:00 pm. Although there is no charge for the ticket for this event, you are welcome to make a donation that would support our youth ministry. Just mark your gift "Christmas Trip."  This would be a great opportunity to bring friends and family to an excellent Christ-centered event! Please sign up with Amy Weyna who is coordinating this.

New York City and Philadelphia Trips

Amy Weyna is planning two Christmas trips for the GCCN congregation.  The first one will be on Saturday, December 1, to New York.  The transportation cost for this would be $66.00   The second trip is planned for Saturday,  December 15 to Philadelphia.  Please speak with Amy for all the details.

FYI: More on Hurricane Sandy & GCCN Ministry
This week we have continued to help neighbors of the Church with tree-cutting and yard clearing.  This past week was the most active for our Facebook page so far with over 750 people seeing content on our page.  The previous week the New York times carried a picture of the downed poles along our property on Bull Run Road. This week's edition of Nazarene Compassionate Ministries Newsletter from Nazarene Headquarters will contain information on how Grace Community Church responded to the needs.  Praise God for people who give of their time and energy!   If you haven't see the Facebook pictures yet, click here
