Business News From The City of  Frederick                                                                              February  2016

Governor Hogan declared this month FeBREWary in celebration of Maryland Craft Beer Lovers Month. In Frederick, we have a lot of celebrate every day in this growing industry. From the hop farmers just outside of the city limits to the new craft breweries emerging in Frederick, it is clear this city and its visitors appreciate small-batch, craft beer. New on the scene is Olde Mother Brewing Company, located on Frederick's east side. They join Monocacy Brewing Company within the City. Our nearby neighbor, Flying Dog Brewery, is one of Maryland's largest breweries and also calls Frederick home. Flying Dog Brewery is considering a major expansion onto a new site located in the City of Frederick.

The concentration of craft breweries in our area is just one example of the growing craft and artisanal food movement in Frederick. From chocolates to small distilleries, the area is representative of a larger movement nationally to embrace locally crafted food and beverages.

If you are sipping your favorite Frederick beer this month, don't forget to give our local breweries a shout-out. Share your Frederick FeBREWary experiences on social media using the hashtags #MDfeBREWary and #MDBeerLovers.

Best,
Richard G. Griffin, AICP, CEcD
