Business News From The City of  Frederick                                                                                  January  2016

,

2016 is starting off with a flurry of activity. We're thrilled to announce that the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) has once again awarded The City of Frederick Community Legacy grant funds. The $100,000 award will be used to continue and expand a city-wide façade improvement grant program and pilot a building reuse program in Downtown Frederick. The programs will be administered jointly by the City of Frederick's Department of Economic Development and its partners - the Downtown Frederick Partnership, the Golden Mile Alliance, and East Frederick Rising.

Other activities kicking off in the New Year include the upcoming City of Frederick Day in Annapolis, new leadership at the Fort Detrick Alliance, continued work to get the Downtown Frederick Hotel and Conference Center "shovel-ready," and developing a new look and feel for our department's marketing materials. Read on to learn more about these items and other business news in Frederick.

Fort Detrick Alliance New Leadership

Eileen Mitchell was recently selected as the new Executive Director of the Fort Detrick Alliance, after retiring as Deputy to the Garrison Commander at Fort Detrick after 35 years. As part of her first responsibilities, she assisted with the annual dinner reception held at Springfield Manor Winery where 152 Alliance members and elected officials congratulated several award winners on their contributions.

Congressman Delaney made remarks and praised work being done at Fort Detrick, encouraged those at Fort Detrick to become involved in the community, ending with "One Frederick, One Fort Detrick".

City of Frederick Hosts December Business Card Exchange

More than 150 Frederick County Chamber members visited City Hall as The City hosted the December Business Card Exchange on December 16. This is a yearly event held at City Hall, decked out for the holidays, and is a great opportunity to meet and speak with Mayor Randy McClement and the Aldermen.

Guests were able to tour City Hall and taste food samples from many local caterers and fellow chamber members and great prizes were raffled off from other Chamber businesses.
