'Tis the season for retailers across the country to gear up for their busiest weeks, and forecasts are pointing to a strong 2015 holiday season.

Overall, the National Retail Federation is predicting that 2015 holiday sales will rise 3.7%. For a retailer, the holiday season can represent as much as 30% of a businesses annual sales.

Frederick's many locally-owned retailers are positioned well for the upcoming holiday shopping season. According Deloitte's 2015 Holiday Survey, 70% of those surveyed plan to shop locally this holiday season.

To recognize the shop small movement, the Mayor and Board of Aldermen will be presenting a Small Business Saturday proclamation on Wednesday, November 18 at 3 p.m. at City Hall. The proclamation will help celebrate "shopping small" this holiday season and highlight Small Business Saturday, which is recognized annually the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Please join us if you can.

We wish all of our businesses a successful holiday season. Cheers! Visit our blog for more information and statistics on the holiday sales forecast
