QUICK LINKS

Greetings!

As home to a number of top ranked manufacturers including MedImmune/AstraZeneca, EDCO, Stulz, Fairchild Controls, and McCutcheons among others, the City of Frederick recently celebrated Manufacturing Day on October 2nd.  According to a 2014 Frederick Market Analysis Report by Sage Policy Group, there are approximately 5,000 people employed in manufacturing across Frederick County including 1,300 in the City.   While this represents only 5.6% and 2.9% of the employment in the County and City respectively, it is an incredibly important sector with immense opportunity to grow great paying jobs right here at home.  Recently MedImmune, which is growing its operations here, shared that 40% of their workforce lives in Frederick County and 15% in the City.

A recent study by the Manufacturing Institute using data from the US Bureau of Economic Analysis, states that manufacturing provides the largest economic multiplier of any other industry sector with "every dollar in final sales of manufactured products support[ing] $1.33 in output from other sectors".  With manufacturing workers earning an average salary of $77K nationally, we know that manufacturing supports high quality career opportunities and family-supporting wages in our community.

To help grow this targeted industry in our community, The City of Frederick passed legislation to eliminate the Business Personal Property Tax and established a new Manufacturing Tax Credit.

We look forward to growing modern manufacturing jobs in Frederick and recruiting the next generation of U.S. manufacturing workers to our area.

Best,
